Trader Joe’s Easy Red Lentil Pasta 🍅🍴

I LOVE everything about Trader Joe’s—the branding, the quality, the product and price consistency. So you’ll likely be seeing a lot more quick & easy Trader Joe’s meals I make on a regular basis.

This Red Lentil Pasta is super packed with protein and fills me up 10x as much as regular pasta does! Not to mention, it’s also gluten free!

Each cup of Red Lentil Pasta has over 15g of protein from the pasta alone. I will admit that the switch from regular pasta to a lentil based pasta was a bit of a transition for me. It has a much stronger/healthier taste that at first can be hard to swallow (literally!). Once I got used to it (thanks to the help of some extra sauce and cheese) I now swear by it and prefer it for its health benefits over regular pasta any day!!

All you need are 5 basic ingredients:

• Red Lentil Pasta

• Mariana Sauce

• Ground Turkey (or Beef, whichever you prefer)

• Baby Spinach

• Shredded Parmesan Cheese

Here is the Recipe:

Step 1. Boil water, then add in Red Lentil Pasta for about 7-8 min (it says 5-6 min but I’ve found it always takes longer). Strain once finished.

Step 2. Cook ground turkey (or beef) until fully cooked in a non stick pan

Step 3. Add in Mariana Sauce to your meat

Step 4. Add in 1/3 cup shredded Parmesan Cheese to your meat sauce

Step 5. Add in the cooked red lentil pasta to the pan and mix until sauce is consistently covering the pasta

Step 6. Add in spinach for 2 min until it wilts

Step 7. Scoop pasta onto to your plate and garnish with more shredded parmesean cheese 🍝

Optional: Feel free to add crushed red pepper flakes for a spicy kick or oregano for more flavor!

... Read moreSince discovering Trader Joe's Red Lentil Pasta, it's become a staple in my pantry! I know many of you are curious about its nutritional benefits and how it stacks up against traditional pasta, so let's dive in. This pasta isn't just a delicious gluten-free alternative; it's a nutritional powerhouse. As the packaging often highlights, you're getting over 20g of protein per cup in some varieties – that's significantly more than traditional wheat pasta, which typically offers around 7-8g. This high protein content is what makes it so incredibly filling and helps keep those hunger pangs at bay, making it an excellent choice for a balanced meal. Beyond protein, red lentil pasta is also rich in fiber, which is fantastic for digestion and overall gut health. It’s a smart swap if you’re looking to boost your nutrient intake without sacrificing the comfort of a good pasta dish. Now, I've heard some people hesitate to try lentil pasta, often wondering about the texture or taste, especially for kids. My own journey involved a slight adjustment, but I promise it's worth it! For families looking for healthy options, this is a game-changer. For lentil pasta kids, I find that serving it with a familiar, flavorful sauce (like the marinara in the recipe!) and a generous sprinkle of cheese makes it an instant hit. The mild, earthy flavor of red lentils blends beautifully with robust sauces. If you're exploring red lentils for baby led weaning, the smaller shapes like sedanini or even breaking spaghetti strands can be perfect. Just ensure it's cooked until very soft and cut into appropriate, graspable pieces to minimize choking hazards. The softness once cooked properly makes it easy for little ones to manage. Getting the perfect 'al dente' texture with red lentil pasta can be a bit different from regular pasta. As I mentioned in the recipe, the cooking time on the package (often 5-6 minutes) might need a slight adjustment. I consistently find that 7-8 minutes in boiling water yields a much better texture – firm enough to hold its shape but tender throughout, avoiding any unpleasant chewiness. Keep an eye on it and taste test, as overcooking can sometimes lead to a mushier result, while undercooking can leave it a bit too firm. For that perfect red lentil pasta cooked close up look and feel, boiling in plenty of salted water is key, and draining it immediately once done. Trader Joe's also offers other fantastic lentil-based products. While this recipe focuses on their classic red lentil pasta, keep an eye out for Trader Joe's Lentil Spaghetti or Trader Joe's Red Lentil Sedanini. Each shape can offer a slightly different culinary experience, and they all share those wonderful nutritional benefits. They're incredibly versatile, and you can easily adapt this 5-ingredient recipe using any of these shapes. Speaking of adaptability, while our recipe is a fantastic, quick 5-ingredient Trader Joe's meal, it's easy to make it your own. Feel free to swap the ground turkey for plant-based crumbles for a vegetarian version, or add extra veggies like mushrooms, bell peppers, or zucchini during the sauce cooking stage for added nutrients and flavor. A sprinkle of fresh basil or a dollop of pesto can also elevate the dish. The beauty of this recipe is its simplicity and how easily it fits into a busy lifestyle, providing a satisfying and healthy meal without much fuss.
