Reality Of Being In College: Highs & Lows
Let’s be real… I’ve made some of my favorite memories and met so many of my amazing friends while being in college but, with all that being said, being a college student does come with some lows. These are some of my realistic opinions about being a college student.
✨Roommates: Everyone has their own experience with roommates BUT my experience has been amazing and I’m extremely lucky. My roommate has became my very bestfriend.
✨Family & Pets: Living away from home is definitely hard. How I help myself feel the most at home is making time to FaceTime my family to see them and talk to them as well as see my puppies. It does get easier as time goes on.
✨Relationships: I’ve been in a long term relationship throughout college. The most important advice I can give to someone who is looking to get into a relationship or is already in one is to communicate. Communication is extremely important in my relationship. We might only be able to see each other once a week but communicating consistently throughout that week definitely helps us.
✨Work/School: Balancing being a full-time college student and having a part-time job can be stressful. It’s finding the time to sit down and plan out your week is what I found to help me the best. You might have to make some tough decisions but at the end of the day you’re in school for your career.
✨Me Time: Being surrounded by people constantly can get overwhelming. Personally finding time for myself is very important whether that’s going to the gym by myself or taking myself to lunch. Luckily my campus is 10 minutes from the beach which is another way I like to spend my “me time”.
✨Meeting New People: Branching out and putting yourself out there can be hard but ITS SO WORTH IT. You never know if the person sitting next to you in a big lecture hall could become one of your bestfriends.

College life is a unique blend of experiences that shape young adults. While the adventure brings unforgettable memories, it also introduces challenges that require resilience. First and foremost, the social aspect can be both exciting and overwhelming. Students are often encouraged to step outside their comfort zones to make new friends, which can lead to lifelong bonds. However, navigating relationships can be tricky. From roommates to romantic partnerships, open communication is essential in managing expectations and ensuring a harmonious living environment. Likewise, balancing schoolwork and jobs might feel stressful. Planning and prioritizing tasks significantly alleviate pressure and help students maintain focus on their academic and career goals. Moreover, living away from home often brings homesickness. Keeping in touch with family and friends through regular calls can ease this transition. Students also need to carve out 'me time' amidst busy schedules. Whether it's hitting the gym or spending a relaxing day at the beach, prioritizing mental health is crucial for overall well-being. Lastly, leveraging college resources such as counseling services and academic advisors can provide significant support. By addressing both the highs and lows of college life proactively, students can cultivate a more enriching and fulfilling college experience.
