YOUR REMINDERTO CLEAN YOUR HAIR TOOLS!!

We often forget that Washing your hair brushes is crucial for maintaining healthy hair and a healthy scalp. It removes accumulated dirt, oil, product residue, dead skin cells, and bacteria.

here are a few reasons to always remember to wash you hair tools!

Prevent Scalp Issues:

Dirty tools can become a breeding ground for bacteria, fungi, and yeast, which can cause scalp irritation, itching, inflammation, and dandruff! If these are issues that you often have then you may need to clean your hair tools!!

Keeps Hair Cleaner for Longer:

When you use a dirty brush, you redistribute old oils and product buildup onto freshly washed strands, making your hair look greasy, dull, and weighed down faster!

Avoids Skin Breakouts:

The oils and bacteria from your brush can transfer to your skin, particularly along the hairline and forehead, potentially clogging pores and contributing to acne and other skin infections. Skin care is too expensive to let it all go to waste due to a dirty brush!

Improves Hair Health & Appearance:

A clean brush glides through hair more easily, reducing tangles, frizz, and the risk of hair breakage or damage. It also ensures that natural oils and any hair products you use are distributed more evenly and effectively.

Extends the Life and Performance of Your Tools: Regular cleaning prevents product residue and gunk from damaging the bristles or base, helping your brush work better and last longer.

I typically try to clean the hair and gunk out of my brushes, combs and other hair tools with each use!

A deep clean is recommended at least once a month (which I know none of us are doing!!). If you use styling products daily or have an oily scalp, once per week is the recommendation!! Me? I’m an annual girlie 💖✨🪩🎀 I really wish that I could be one of those people that cleaned my hair tools monthly! But it’s just not me! Let’s keep each other accountable this year!! We all deserve healthy clean hair and clean hair tools!!

HOW I CLEAN MY TOOLS?!?

Step one! Grab the mop bucket!! Clean the mop bucket out!!

Step 2!! Fill the mop bucket in the tub with hot water and your favorite shampoo!!

STEP 3!!! Soak tools in the bucket for at least an hour! But it’s totally safe to leave it all day and come back to it in the afternoon when you have more time!

STEP 4!!!! After soaking, dump the bucket into the bathtub!and rinse tools with HOT 🥵 WATER!!

STEP 5!!!!! Lay a towel out onto the counter or floor and allow the tools to air dry overnight! Bonus points if you’re able to leave the bathroom window open to allow fresh air in!!

Comment when you’ve seen this post to remind me to clean my own hair tools again!!! 💖

... Read moreKeeping your hair tools clean is not just a matter of hygiene; it directly influences how your hair looks and feels every day. Based on my experience, consistently cleaning brushes and combs helps prevent embarrassing scalp issues like dandruff and itching that can sneak up when tools become breeding grounds for bacteria and fungi. Even if daily deep-cleaning seems intimidating, simple regular maintenance can make a huge difference. I’ve found that removing hair strands and debris from brushes immediately after use saves a lot of time during deep cleans. Using a fine-tooth comb, like the one mentioned in the post, really helps to dislodge product buildup caught between bristles. Also, soaking tools in hot water mixed with shampoo for at least an hour loosens grime effectively. Leaving the tools soaking longer is totally fine, especially if you have busy days and can’t finish all steps immediately. An important tip I followed is always to rinse brushes and combs under hot water thoroughly—this ensures all shampoo residues and loosened gunk are washed away, preventing buildup that damages bristles over time. Drying tools bristle side down, as noted in the photos, lets water drain correctly and helps brushes dry faster, which reduces the chance of mold forming. If you use styling products daily or have an oily scalp, weekly cleaning is really helpful to keep hair from looking greasy prematurely. Plus, you reduce skin breakouts around your hairline by avoiding bacterial transfer from dirty brushes to your face. It’s a simple but effective addition to your skincare routine. One more thing: cleaning tools not only improves your hair’s appearance—it also preserves your investment. Brushes without buildup brush more smoothly, reduce breakage, and last longer. Over time, this saves money and frustration. Let’s be honest, none of us are perfect with our routines, but encouraging each other to stay accountable to at least monthly deep cleans can make a huge impact. Try setting reminders on your phone or joining social media groups focused on hair care for motivation. Healthy hair really starts with clean tools, and the results are totally worth the effort!
