When people ask me what to eat in Reykjavik, the first thing out of my mouth has to be the Brauð & Co cinnamon roll. Seriously, if you only try one thing, make it this! I still dream about that warm, gooey, perfectly spiced roll. The smell alone from the bakery is enough to pull you in. We went early in the morning and bought a few for breakfast – trust me, you'll want more than one. It's a true Icelandic joy and a must-visit spot in the city.
But my culinary adventures didn't stop there! For a savory breakfast or a light lunch, I became obsessed with the smoked salmon bagel from Te & Kaffi, paired with a fantastic chili mocha. The salmon was so fresh, and that little kick from the mocha was the perfect start to a chilly day. You'll find these cafes everywhere, and they're great for a quick, quality bite.
And you absolutely cannot visit Iceland without diving into their dairy products. KEA Skyr became my go-to snack. The 'Kaffi og Vanilla' flavor was incredible – thick, creamy, and packed with protein. I also noticed a lot of interesting Icelandic protein shakes on the shelves, which is great if you’re looking for a quick energy boost between adventures. And for a truly unique local treat, you have to grab a Ríó licorice chocolate bar. The combination of sweet chocolate, salty crisps, and the distinctive licorice flavor is something you won't find anywhere else – it's an acquired taste for some, but I loved it!
For heartier meals, the lamb burger was a constant delight. Every place seemed to do it a little differently, but it was always juicy and flavorful, often served with a perfectly baked potato. I also stumbled upon this incredible black crust pizza topped with duck, orange, nuts, and green onions – such an unexpected yet delicious combination! And for seafood lovers, the smoked trout poke bowl with fresh cucumber, edamame, and seaweed was a light and satisfying option, showcasing Iceland's amazing fish.
Finally, for a sweet treat that feels truly authentic, a trip to Efstidalur Farm was a highlight. Their homemade ice cream, served in these adorable edible spoons, was the perfect indulgence after exploring the Golden Circle. It's a working farm, so you know it's fresh. Honestly, every meal felt like an experience, and I can confidently say the food scene in Iceland is a solid 10/10. Don't be afraid to try new things – you might just discover your new favorite food!
we all have to visit Iceland one day❤️
