And that’s on living in the Midwest. These are my parents and sister’s cars.

A massive EF-3 tornado went through our area and It brought with it record breaking hail for our state (6.6 inches). The tornado came within 2 miles of our home but we were fortunate to not sustain any damages to our personal house or cars.

So many friends and family lost cars and sustained significant home damages, including MANY of our rental properties. It’s been a nightmare to navigate, but we are grateful everyone is safe. #hail #tornado #midwest #weather #weathertok @Sophers113

This storm brought hail stones measuring 6.6 inches in diameter, some of the largest ever recorded in the state. From my own experience, such extreme weather conditions create a profound sense of vulnerability, continually reminding us of nature’s force. For those in tornado-prone regions, preparedness is paramount. Having a safe room or basement is essential to protect lives, as tornadoes can travel swiftly and cause widespread destruction. While it's fortunate to escape physical damage to property and vehicles, the emotional and logistical challenges faced by families losing homes or cars remain significant. Many community members faced severe damage to their homes and rental properties, complicating recovery efforts with insurance claims and repairs. For car owners, large hail can mean total loss due to extensive body damage, prompting important questions about insurance coverage and vehicle protection strategies. In sharing this experience, I urge others to stay vigilant during storm seasons by tracking weather updates and having emergency plans ready. Additionally, for those involved in property management or rentals, consider reinforcing structures and ensuring comprehensive insurance policies are in place. This event also brings attention to the resilience and solidarity within communities hit by natural disasters—neighbors helping neighbors and support networks are crucial during recovery. While we were lucky to avoid damage at our home and vehicles, our thoughts remain with those who endured more hardship, and we continue to offer assistance and share lessons learned to better prepare for future storms.
