My nieces came to visit me at NYC!!!
Love my nieces soooo much is like having a piece of you that you didn’t give birth to but still feel that immense and profound connection too. #auntie #auntlife #niece #richauntievibes New York
Hey fellow aunts and uncles! My heart is still overflowing from my nieces' recent visit to New York City. It was an absolutely unforgettable experience exploring the Big Apple with them, and I wanted to share some of our adventure highlights and practical tips for anyone planning a 'niece city' trip! First off, planning is definitely key, especially when you have different age groups or interests. We focused on creating a balanced itinerary with a mix of iconic sights and places where they could simply enjoy being kids. One of our absolute favorite stops was Hudson Yards. The girls were mesmerized by The Vessel – it’s such a unique structure and made for some fantastic photo opportunities! We spent a good chunk of time just marveling at the architecture and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. Another evening highlight that truly captivated them was seeing the illuminated New York City skyline from an observation deck. The collective gasps of wonder when they saw all the lights twinkling below were priceless. It really brought home the magic and grandeur of the city. We also decided to take a boat trip, which offered a completely different and equally stunning perspective of the city skyline and a large bridge. Seeing everything from the water is an experience I highly recommend, and they even had fun pretending to be sailors! We found some lovely, quieter spots too, like sitting on the rocks by the water with the cityscape as our backdrop. These moments of simple enjoyment were just as special as the big attractions. For those of you gearing up for your own 'niece city' escapade, here are a few things I learned along the way: Comfort is Key: NYC involves A LOT of walking! Make sure everyone, especially the little ones, has super comfortable shoes. Trust me, happy feet lead to happy adventurers. Snack and Hydrate: Always have snacks and water on hand. City exploring can be exhausting, and a quick energy boost keeps spirits high and meltdowns at bay. Pace Yourselves: Don't try to cram too much into one day. A tired niece (or aunt!) is a grumpy one! We found focusing on one or two major activities per day, with plenty of downtime, worked best. This allowed for spontaneous fun like finding a cool playground or a great ice cream shop. Capture the Memories: Take tons of photos! From silly selfies in front of landmarks like The Vessel to candid shots of them enjoying a treat, these memories are precious. The images from our trip, whether they were making peace signs on the observation deck or excitedly looking out the window on the airplane coming to visit, are already treasures. Let Them Choose: Give your nieces a say in some of the activities. Even picking a specific dessert spot or a souvenir shop can make them feel more invested and excited about the trip. Seeing the city through their eyes was truly magical. It’s not just about the places you visit, but the laughter, the stories, and the strengthening of that special bond. These city trips with my nieces are moments I’ll cherish forever!
