An aspiring songwriter named Violet moves to New York go pursue her dreams. She quickly learns that getting her songs heard isn’t going to be an easy feat. Down on her luck, Violet stumbles across some of the Coyotes and takes a chance and gets roped into the world of making drinks, dancing on bar tops, and singing. The whole movie is honestly a fun vibe and it has Tyra Banks in it.
👸🏻 The Princess Diaries (2001)
Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) basically invents glowing up. This movie follows the life of Mia Thermopolis a typical teenage girl living her life. Unbeknownst to her she secretly has ties to royalty in the country of Genovia and is the sole heir to the throne. Her grandmother, Queen Clarisse, prepares her for the Royal life with lessons on how to be a princess. Juggling princess lessons and everyday teenage life is complicated for Mia but it is an entertaining watch. Fun fact: Whitney Houston actually was one of the producers for this movie!
🩰 Save the Last Dance (2001)
Pre Watch: This is on my to be watched list because they just added it to Netflix. I know this movie has dancing in it and Kerry Washington plays a character in it. I’ll update this description once I watch it!
Post Watch: This MTV Film is about a girl named Sara who aspires to go to attend Juilliard as a ballerina. After a tragic accident she finds herself moving from suburbs to south side Chicago to live with her father. She now attends a predominantly black high school and has to adjust to the shift in culture (style, slang, etc.). Sara finds herself navigating new friendships/relationships and rediscovering her passion for dance. I’m a sucker for a good dance movie!
🎸 Freaky Friday (2003)
This movie stars Lindsey Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis as a mother/daughter duo. Anna lives on the rebellious side and is the guitarist in a band Pink Slip. They switch bodies and have to go about their everyday life as each other until they find a way to switch back. This movie is a hilarious classic. One of my faves!
😇 Charlie’s Angels (2000)
Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, and Drew Barrymore are it girls in this iconic film. These three leading ladies are Angels or private investigators for a millionaire named Charlie Townsend. They never see him but they go on missions for him. This movie is like the blueprint for shows like Totally Spies.
