... Read moreAs someone who's deep into the incredible world of Sarah J. Maas, specifically her Throne of Glass series, I often get asked: 'Where do I even start?' and 'What should I read after?' It can definitely feel overwhelming with so many books and interconnected stories! For anyone diving into the Throne of Glass series, which includes the fantastic 'Empire of Storms' that I'm currently enjoying, here's my personal take on the best reading order to truly get the full experience and avoid spoilers. My Recommended Throne of Glass Reading Order: The Assassin's Blade (Prequel Novellas): Even though it's a prequel, I personally recommend reading this after Throne of Glass (book 1) or even Crown of Midnight (book 2). It gives so much context to Celaena's past and makes her character development even more impactful. Some say read it first, but for me, the emotional punch landed harder knowing her already. Throne of Glass: The one that started it all! This introduces you to Celaena Sardothien, an assassin who enters a deadly competition. It’s a great introduction to the world and characters. Crown of Midnight: The stakes get higher, and you start to see the true depth of the plot unfold. More action and unexpected twists! Heir of Fire: This is where the series truly elevates! The character arcs are phenomenal, and the world-building expands significantly. Prepare for some serious emotional moments. Queen of Shadows: An absolute powerhouse! This book brings so many things together and delivers on so many fronts. You won't be able to put it down. Empire of Storms: (Where I'm currently at!) This one is epic in scale. The tension is palpable, and the revelations are huge. Make sure you have plenty of time because you'll want to devour it. Tower of Dawn: This book focuses on a different character and storyline but runs concurrently with Empire of Storms. I actually read it after Empire of Storms, and it felt like a good break before the finale. Kingdom of Ash: The grand finale! I haven't gotten here yet, but I've heard it's an emotional rollercoaster and a fitting end to such an incredible journey. I'm excited and a little nervous to finish it! What to Read After Throne of Glass? Once you finish Throne of Glass, you might find yourself in an SJM-shaped hole, just like I was after completing another one of her series, ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses). Luckily, Sarah J. Maas has more incredible worlds to jump into! A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR) Series: This is the series I read before Throne of Glass, and it's equally captivating, though with a different vibe. It's more fae-centric and has a strong romantic fantasy element. If you loved the magic and romance in Throne of Glass, you'll adore ACOTAR. I mean, who doesn't love Rhysand, right? It's a fantastic choice for your next SJM adventure. Crescent City Series: This is her newest adult fantasy series, starting with 'House of Earth and Blood.' It's urban fantasy with angels, demons, fae, and more, set in a modern world. It’s a bit darker and more complex, but absolutely brilliant. I'm planning to start this one as soon as I've recovered from finishing Kingdom of Ash! Trust me, SJM's books never disappoint, and there's always another adventure waiting just around the corner.
