📍National Zoo, Washington D.C.

The national zoo was one of my favorite parts of D.C.! Right outside of downtown, free, and absolutely gorgeous. I walked about 4.5 miles and there was more to see🐯🦁🐼🐒

Located just outside downtown, the zoo presents not only a wide range of animal exhibits but also beautifully maintained paths that make for an enjoyable stroll. During my visit, I walked approximately 4.5 miles, which allowed me to fully immerse myself in the natural environment and see many fascinating creatures, including tigers, lions, pandas, and various primates. One of the best features of the National Zoo is that it’s completely free to enter, making it accessible for families and travelers on any budget. This aspect encouraged me to spend several hours there without rushing, giving me ample time to observe the animals' behaviors and learn about conservation efforts. The signage throughout the zoo provides educational tidbits, adding to the enriching experience. The location at 3001 Connecticut Ave NW is conveniently connected to public transit options, making it easy to plan a visit as part of a day exploring D.C. landmarks. I found peaceful spots along the walking trails perfect for taking breaks and enjoying the greenery, which was a welcome retreat from the bustling city. It’s ideal for those who appreciate nature walks combined with animal watching. If you plan your visit during spring or fall, the pleasant weather enhances the experience, as outdoor viewing areas are more comfortable. Additionally, the zoo frequently updates exhibits and offers special events that provide deeper insights into wildlife conservation. Overall, the National Zoo stands out as a must-visit attraction in Washington D.C. that offers both adventure and education in a lovely, free setting.

my belief is that if a zoo cannot provide an animals natural range, then it has no business in being a zoo.
