This was one day post op from gastric sleeve

I had my gastric sleeve done 4-2-2025. They found a hernia and repaired it whilst in there. The gas pain is horrible and yes I am walking a lot. Any tips for those who are out of the woods? I’m going to share my journey and hopefully contact with other baratric besties for tips! #gastric #gastricsleeve #herniarepair #gastricsleevejourney

... Read moreIt's completely normal to feel overwhelmed and uncomfortable on Day 1 after gastric sleeve surgery, especially with that intense gas pain! I remember those first 24 hours feeling like a marathon, even when just walking a few steps. But trust me, every little walk you take helps move that trapped gas, which is crucial for easing discomfort. Keeping up with your pain medication schedule and sipping small amounts of clear liquids are also absolute lifesavers. Hydration is key, even if it feels like a chore right now. Looking at your healing laparoscopic incisions, it's amazing how quickly the body starts to mend. For many of us, those small incisions will fade significantly over time. While you might be seeing them one day post-op, many people wonder about gastric sleeve scars 6 months down the line. I've found that proper incision care – keeping them clean and dry, following your surgeon's instructions, and avoiding direct sun exposure – makes a huge difference. Over the next few months, they'll typically soften and flatten. Some people use silicone sheets or scar creams once cleared by their doctor, but patience is truly the biggest factor in how scars evolve. Now, let's talk about the journey ahead, specifically diet progression after bariatric surgery and planning bariatric meals. This is a staged process designed to protect your new stomach and ensure you get adequate nutrition. You're currently in the clear liquid phase, focusing on hydration. Soon, you'll move to full liquids (like protein shakes and thin pureed soups), then pureed foods, soft foods, and eventually, regular solid foods. Each stage is vital. For example, when you get to the pureed stage, think blended lean proteins like chicken or fish, and soft, cooked vegetables. For bariatric meals, focus on protein first, then non-starchy vegetables, and save small portions of healthy carbs for last, if at all. Portion control will become your new best friend! Always remember to eat slowly, chew thoroughly, and stop at the first sign of fullness. One concern that sometimes comes up, especially for those considering or having had bariatric surgery, is losing teeth after gastric bypass. While your surgery was a sleeve, nutrient absorption issues can still arise with any bariatric procedure if not managed properly. This can sometimes lead to deficiencies in calcium, vitamin D, and other vitamins essential for bone and dental health. It's why diligent adherence to your prescribed vitamin and mineral supplements is non-negotiable for life. Regular follow-ups with your bariatric team and dentist are also crucial to catch any potential issues early. Remember, this journey is about total body health!
