5 Things to Live by When you’re Self-Employed
5. Time Management is the make all break all it. This includes day to day for your business, time for your paperwork, time for yourself to avoid burnout. If you’re self employed you know a daily schedule doesn’t usually go as mapped, but I do recommend creating a weekly productivity plan.
4. Surround yourself with same-work ethic friends and life partners. It’s okay to have friends who are 9-5ers, but you will find yourself feeling like the odd one out if ALL of your friends are in that position.
3. Great Employees are hard to come by, but you have to remind yourself that even the best will not think like you or do like you. Always take the time to think from their perspective, not just from the mindset of the business owner. No one will treat your business as well as you do. If you’re not careful it’s easy to become negative about employees because you are viewing them as if you would be doing the job.A leader takes a step back and works with people while a boss only nags.
2. Comparison is the thief of joy. I say this when dealing with competition. If you are honestly offering a good product or service, focus on that, not others. Make sure you have a price point that reflects YOURSELF. Even if it is higher or lower than others. Make a business plan that makes you money, but doesn’t make you greedy. Don’t worry about what others are doing.
1. “It’s not a job, it’s a lifestyle” - this is something I’ve heard in my family for years. I was raised in a multigenerational family business before running my own. The key to success is to have discipline when the passion for whatever you’re doing falters, and it will. I say this because let’s be honest here, most entrepreneurs enter something they are passionate about. But make sure you able to keep pushing through the many rough days ahead.
