... Read moreI recently had the most amazing day at Deer Tracks Junction, and I wanted to share some insider tips to make your visit even better! While the official information covers hours and pricing, there's so much more to know to truly maximize your adventure. Let's talk about the Site 57 Safari first, especially if you're curious about those 'ostrich tracks' and other animal encounters. Driving through and feeding animals from your car is such a unique experience! My absolute favorite part was when an ostrich's head peered right into our car window – prepare for some slobbery but hilarious moments! It's truly unforgettable. You can purchase food pellets on-site, and I highly recommend getting a few buckets. The giraffes are majestic, and seeing a giraffe stand under its thatched-roof shelter is a sight to behold. We also spotted zebras standing behind metal fences and even a graceful white antelope-like animal roaming freely. Be ready for animals to approach your vehicle, so have your cameras ready and windows ready to open (but be mindful of little fingers!). It’s not just about seeing them; it’s about interacting, which makes it so special. If you're planning your trip, consider the Deer Tracks Junction hours carefully. We found that going right when they open, especially on a Saturday or Sunday, helps beat the biggest crowds, giving you more time with the animals and on the play structures. The combo ticket for both the Walk-Thru Adventure Park and the Safari is definitely worth it for a full day of fun. The Walk-Thru Adventure Park offers a different kind of magic. Beyond the usual farm animals, the playgrounds are seriously impressive. My kids couldn't get enough of the giant play structures, tunnels, and slides. It’s not just small slides; these are elaborate, multi-level areas that encourage real exploration. We also loved the hands-on animal encounters, like bottle-feeding the baby animals. It's a fantastic way for kids to learn about and connect with nature. Don't forget to refuel! The Plop Plop Ice Cream Shop is a must-visit for homemade treats. After all that walking and driving, a scoop of creamy ice cream hits the spot. The Snack Shack also has surprisingly good options for lunch. A few practical tips I learned: wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen, and hydrate. While they have water for sale, carrying your own bottle is always a good idea. Also, remember to review the liability waiver before you go, and note their no-pets policy. The facilities are very family-friendly, with accessible walkways and plenty of hand-wash stations, which is a huge plus after all the animal interactions. Overall, Deer Tracks Junction is more than just an animal park; it's an immersive experience for the whole family. From feeding an ostrich that looks into your car to exploring massive playgrounds, it truly offers a unique blend of adventure and interaction. I can't wait to go back!
