✨ January Closet Reset for Small Spaces 🚪

My word for 2026 will be “intentional”. All my purchases moving forward, I want to be intentional. This goes for my clothes as well. I had a lot of things and it wasn’t making me happy.

Here were my determining factors on what to get rid of to make space:

⭐️ I organize my drawers by type. If these items fit in the drawer, they stay. I also folded items to actually fit without being stuffed in. I had a lot of graphic tees and sweatshirts. I only kept ones I regularly have worn and will wear again. I don’t need something for every event or sport team. 3-4 band, city, or sports shirts is all you need for each.

⭐️ I organized my closet by type of clothing, then by color. This helped me see what I tend to gravitate towards. This year, I rotated my hangers and whatever was left backwards is being donated. Now, I can see my color palette and know what to work with when putting together my OOTD.

⭐️ Everything that didn’t make the cut is in a donate bag. I hang onto the bag for about a week. If I thought about a piece that is in that bag, and wanted to wear it, this gives me time to decide on it. If by a week, the items aren’t thought of, out it goes. This can be done seasonally to avoid donating out of season clothing.

⭐️Going forward, I am going to stick to the colors I primarily wear, only buy intentional pieces, nothing just because I’m at an event or want something for a specific event. If I don’t have more than one use, it’s not worth the money. I’m also going to enact a “1 in, 1 out” policy to ensure I don’t get over crowded again!

I love to see people who have color in their wardrobe. Is it just me or is 50 shades of beige predictable?

What I do to easily see if I have worn something in a year is you turn all hangers backwards at the start of the year and as you wear something it goes back in the closet the correct way. At the end of the year anything still backwards gets donated or sold. You didnt wear it this year so you probably won’t wear it next year either
