Mending

A big part of being frugal is learning how to cut costs.

one way to do that is to cut down on waste.

When things break, learn how to fix them, that way a few popped stitches won't have you throwing away otherwise good clothing.

My husband sometimes has more faith in mending skills then I do, but this time it was a simple fix.

I just needed my walking foot (which has its own feed dogs so the fabric is guided on top and on bottom at the same time) and a zigzag stitch to get these sweatpants working good as new.

My biggest tip when working with elastic is to stretch as you sew, and only until the fabric you are working with lays flat.

... Read moreMending is an essential skill that not only helps in saving money but also promotes sustainability. With the rising trend of environmental consciousness, many are turning to DIY methods to repair their damaged clothing rather than throwing them away. A proper understanding of basic sewing techniques, including the use of a zigzag stitch, can significantly extend the life of garments. This technique is especially useful for stretchy fabrics, such as those found in sweatpants. The zigzag stitch is ideal for sewing elastic waistbands, ensuring both durability and elasticity. When mending, it's crucial to stretch the fabric slightly as you sew to maintain its original fit and feel. Additionally, using a walking foot can provide better control over the material layers, minimizing the risk of misalignment during sewing. For those new to sewing, exploring various online forums and communities can provide valuable insights and tips. Platforms dedicated to sewing, like those tagged with #sewing and #environmentallyfriendly, frequently showcase innovative ways to repair and upcycle clothing. By embracing mending, we can contribute to a more sustainable future while also honing our sewing skills.

Yes, love to see it! I learned from you and know what to do when this happens to me! I see so much stuff donated to the thrift that has little things "wrong" that could have been fixed. But no one wants to...throwaway society has a hold! But posts like this help change that🥰
