I used to hate that I wasn’t “Stoic”

I used to struggle with not being “stoic” enough.

Especially when I moved to San Diego. 🥶

This is totally non-nutrition related…but I’ve seen those “social media is a highlight reel” posts and this is my version of that, I guess.

I always have felt a little too…goofy? Quirky? Awkward? 🤓

But, as I’ve gotten older…I’ve realized that it’s actually one of my super powers. It’s also so incredible that my husband loves me for exactly who I am & doesn’t expect me to be anyone else…and will LITERALLY lift me up when I’m down on myself. 🥰🫶🏼😇

People appreciate real, raw humans. And I hope that’s what you find here on my page. Whether it’s nutrition or just life.

And that’s also who I am as a coach. And a friend. I want you to feel comfortable being whoever YOU truly are around me. Knowing you won’t be met with judgement. 🙏🏼

Anyways… Easter has me all up in my feels. In short… be yourself. Who else is going to be?

Happy Easter to you and yours from me and mine. 🩵🐣

... Read moreWhen I first moved to San Diego, I thought I had to reinvent myself, to become this 'stoic' person who had it all together. The sunny, laid-back vibe made me feel like I needed to be effortlessly cool, calm, and collected. I'd scroll through social media, seeing highlight reels of seemingly perfect lives, and I'd just think, 'Why can't I be like that?' It was exhausting trying to fit into a mold that wasn't me. This idea of 'stoicism' can be a real trap. We often think it means suppressing emotions, always being tough, never showing weakness. But what I've learned, especially after a lot of self-reflection, is that true strength comes from acknowledging all of you. My 'goofy,' 'quirky,' and even 'awkward' moments aren't flaws; they're part of what makes me, me. Trying to hide them actually made me feel weaker, not stronger, and definitely less connected to others. I was constantly battling myself, and that's no way to live. It's about acknowledging your uniqueness. That's a huge one, especially when it comes to building meaningful relationships. When you show up as your authentic self, without pretense or trying to be someone you're not, you build deeper, more genuine connections. I used to worry if I was 'too much' or 'not enough,' but when my husband loves me for exactly that, it’s such a relief and a testament to being real. It's not about finding someone who tolerates you, but someone who celebrates your true self, quirks and all. That kind of acceptance starts with yourself first. People sometimes search for ways to 'embrace stoicism,' and I totally get the appeal of wanting inner peace and resilience. But for me, embracing my version of resilience meant embracing my emotions, good and bad. It meant being vulnerable, asking for help when I needed it, and admitting when I was struggling. That's a different kind of strength, one that feels much more sustainable and true. It's about having the courage to feel, rather than numbing yourself. Sometimes, when you're grappling with these feelings, especially in a new city or phase of life, you might even consider exploring options like 'San Diego stoic counseling' or just general support to help navigate your emotions. And honestly, there's absolutely no shame in seeking guidance to understand yourself better. It's not about being 'fixed,' but about gaining tools to navigate your own unique emotional landscape and learning to love the view. My journey has taught me that connection isn't built on perfection or a lack of emotion, but on shared humanity and authenticity. So, if you're out there feeling like you're not 'stoic enough' or too 'something else' in San Diego or anywhere, know that your true self is your greatest asset. Let your quirks shine!
