If you want something to changeā¦
You canāt keep doing things the same.
Imperfect action > perfect inaction.
Hey everyone! You know how sometimes you just feel stuck, like you're doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results? That's exactly how I felt about getting active. My amazing instructor, Kale RD, CPT, always says, 'You canāt keep doing things the same,' and it really hit home. I used to think I needed an hour-long, intense workout every day to see any progress. But honestly, who has that kind of time consistently? That's when I learned the power of 'imperfect action over perfect inaction.' You really don't have to be a fitness guru or spend hours at the gym to make a difference. In order for things to change, you just have to start, even if it's small. My personal game-changer has been committing to just 15 minutes of intentional movement each day. And here's the kicker: it has to be something I genuinely enjoy! For me, that looks like a lot of different things. Some days it's putting on my favorite upbeat playlist and dancing around my living room ā nobody's watching, so I can be as silly as I want! Other days, itās a gentle stretching routine in the morning, which helps me feel more limber and ready for the day. When I can make it to the community pool, even a quick 15-minute swim feels incredibly refreshing and is a fantastic full-body workout without feeling like a chore. The key is to make it an actionable step that's easy to commit to. Instead of thinking 'I need to work out,' I now think 'I'm going to dance for one song,' or 'I'll do five minutes of stretching before breakfast.' These small, enjoyable bursts add up! Over the past two months, Iāve noticed such a difference in my energy levels, my mood, and even my sleep. Here are a few quick tips if you're looking to add intentional exercise to your routine: Find YOUR joy: What kind of movement makes you happy? It doesn't have to be traditional exercise. Think dancing, gardening, playing with pets, walking around your neighborhood while listening to a podcast. Schedule it: Even if it's just 15 minutes, put it in your calendar. Treat it like an important appointment. Start small: Don't aim for perfection. A 5-minute walk is better than no walk. Remember, you don't have to be an expert to begin. Track your progress: I love using a simple habit tracker app or even just a notebook to tick off my 15 minutes each day. Seeing those streaks grow is incredibly motivating. Mix it up: Keep it fresh! If you get bored with one activity, switch to another. This prevents burnout and keeps things enjoyable. Making these small, consistent changes has truly helped me create a healthier, happier lifestyle. It's amazing how much can shift when you just decide to take that first imperfect step. Give it a try, and let me know what your favorite 15-minute activities are!
