Running has given me such a high through this crazy time as a med student! A lot is changing but one thing is for sure…I am now training for my first marathon! Even tho it’s at the end of the year, I plan to get in some road races and increase my strength and endurance training!

Training for my first marathon while managing a demanding med school schedule has been both challenging and rewarding. One of the key strategies I found helpful is incorporating treadmill workouts like the 4x 5-minute base pace, 1-minute tempo runs, followed by recovery and all-out sprints. These interval sessions not only boost my endurance but also help maintain a strong mental focus despite a hectic daily routine. Core strengthening exercises have been essential for injury prevention and improving running efficiency. I integrate core workouts into my gym sessions to build stability, which is crucial for long-distance running. Additionally, participating in shorter road races provides valuable race-day experience and helps me gauge my progress. Balancing training with study requires good time management and listening to my body. Rest days are just as important as training days to avoid burnout. Sharing my journey with others through social media has offered a supportive community that motivates me to keep going. For anyone considering marathon training during busy life phases, setting realistic goals and having a structured plan makes all the difference. Each run brings me closer to the finish line, and the sense of accomplishment is truly worth every effort.
