Chocoflan 😋 If you like to bake the flan & cake mix at the same time, this video is not for you 😅
Chocoflan is a delightful Mexican dessert known as the "magic cake" because of its unique way of combining flan and chocolate cake layers. From my experience, one key to achieving the best texture and taste is to bake the flan and cake layers separately rather than mixing them at once. This method prevents the flan from curdling and ensures a smooth, creamy custard beneath a rich chocolate cake layer. Typically, the flan mixture includes ingredients like eggs, condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla, and sometimes a splash of regular milk. The chocolate cake layer is often made from a boxed chocolate fudge cake mix combined with butter and additional eggs for moisture. I found that timing is crucial: baking the flan first for about 40 minutes at 350°F helps it set properly without overcooking. Then, the chocolate cake batter is poured over the flan and baked again for another 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Using a stopwatch or oven timer helps to avoid under or overcooking. From a personal perspective, this two-step baking process takes a bit more patience but yields a more professional-looking and tasting Chocoflan. It’s perfect for Valentine's Day or any gathering where you want to impress with a dessert that looks complex but is straightforward to prepare. Don't forget to say "hello" to your loved ones, just like I did when baking with this recipe. Happy baking!
