I’ll be wherever God takes me…..This is 36!
This birthday didn’t look the way I thought it would.
My solo birthday trip got cancelled because my dad didn’t show up to watch my kids. As a widow and mom of four in a new area, moments like that can feel really heavy when you don’t have a strong support system yet.
But instead of sitting in disappointment, I met up with a friend for brunch. We prayed over our food, laughed, made content, and turned the moment into something meaningful.
Losing my husband changed so much about my life. It also changed what I value.
These days I’m grateful for the small things:
• peace
• prayer
• genuine friendships
• and simply making the best of what the day brings.
Sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan, but God still shows up in the moment.
Life, as we all know, rarely follows the script we meticulously write for it. Just like my recent birthday plans that took an unexpected detour, plans can fall apart, leaving us feeling disappointed or lost. But what if these detours aren't just setbacks, but opportunities to cultivate something truly powerful – a 'divine skill' that leads to a 'flawless and firm' spirit? When I reflect on navigating moments when life doesn't go according to my expectations, I realize that developing this 'divine skill' is really about how I choose to respond. It’s not about avoiding challenges, but about finding an inner strength and grace to move through them. For me, this ability often comes from a deep sense of faith and an intentional practice of gratitude, even when my heart feels heavy. It’s about accepting what I can’t change and focusing on what I can – my perspective and my actions. One of the most profound ways I’ve found to build a 'flawless and firm' spirit is through the power of prayer and genuine connection. There's immense strength in knowing that even when I feel alone, I'm not. The original article mentioned meeting up with a friend for brunch and praying over their food. This resonates so deeply with my own experiences. The phrase 'POV: Friends that pray together...' truly captures the essence of how community can uplift and steady your spirit. Having people in your life who can share in your disappointments and celebrate your small victories, all while grounding you in faith, is an incredible gift. They act as anchors, helping your spirit stay firm when life's currents try to pull you under. Cultivating this 'divine skill' also involves embracing resilience as a daily practice. It's like building a muscle – the more you use it, the stronger it becomes. Every time I choose gratitude over bitterness, or seek connection instead of isolation, I'm actively working on this muscle. It’s about reframing disappointments not as failures, but as opportunities for growth and deeper understanding. My own journey has taught me that true firmness isn't about being rigid, but about being adaptable and rooted in a trust that 'God still shows up in the moment,' no matter how bleak things seem. So, how can you start cultivating your own 'divine skill' for a 'flawless and firm' spirit? Practice Daily Gratitude: Even on the toughest days, try to find three small things you're genuinely grateful for. This simple act can shift your perspective dramatically. Lean on Your Community: Don't be afraid to reach out to friends or family when you're struggling. Sharing your burdens can lighten them, and their support can fortify your spirit. Embrace Prayer or Mindfulness: Taking quiet moments to connect with your faith or simply be present can help you tap into that inner wellspring of strength and peace. Reframe Setbacks: Instead of viewing unexpected detours as failures, try to see them as lessons or opportunities for new beginnings. This mindset is crucial for maintaining a firm resolve. It’s a continuous journey, but one that leads to a profound sense of peace and an unwavering spirit, capable of navigating whatever life brings your way.
