Things I Had to Recognize Before I Could Heal: My Body Wasn’t Betraying Me
One of the biggest shifts in my healing journey happened when I stopped asking:
“What’s wrong with me?”
…and started asking:
“What is my body responding to?”
The tension. The overthinking. The urge to react immediately. The difficulty slowing down.
Instead of immediately judging those responses, I started getting curious about them.
Healing isn’t about never being triggered or uncomfortable. It’s about developing enough awareness to recognize what’s happening before automatically reacting to it.
And for me, that pause creates room for something else:
🤍 Prayer
🤍 Wisdom
🤍 Discernment
🤍 A healthier response
Sometimes the first step isn’t fixing anything.
It’s simply recognizing what’s happening.
Purposeful Reflection:
What changes when you stop judging your response and start getting curious about what may be underneath it?

In my own experience, I found that healing truly began when I learned to pause and observe my body's signals rather than immediately labeling them as problems. For example, when I noticed tension rising or felt overwhelmed by racing thoughts, instead of pushing those feelings away or judging myself, I started to ask what underlying stressors or emotions might be causing these reactions. This curiosity not only helped me reduce anxiety but also opened the door to more compassionate self-care. I began to incorporate simple mindful practices like focused breathing and prayer during those moments of tension, which helped me regain control and clarity. Additionally, understanding that these physiological and emotional cues are not betrayals but messages from my nervous system empowered me to nurture my body rather than punish it. Over time, this approach enriched my journey with wisdom and discernment, allowing me to choose healthier responses instead of reactive ones. I believe that developing nervous system awareness is crucial, as it provides vital clues about our mental and emotional states. For anyone feeling stuck or frustrated by their healing process, I encourage you to transform the question from 'What's wrong with me?' to 'What is my body communicating?' This perspective shift can create a profound change, bringing peace and progress in your personal growth.
