Week 3 of December’s Drop It Challenge 4 New Moves
Week three of Drop It December is here and if you’ve made it this far, be proud of yourself. We are still building on our foundation and adding a little more control and intention to each movement.
Tempo Squats
Slowing the squat down helps build strength, control, and muscle. Three seconds down forces your legs and glutes to work harder and improves your form.
Good Mornings
This is our hinge movement and it targets your glutes, hamstrings, and lower back. You can use bodyweight or a moderate weight. Keep a slight bend in your knees and push your hips back.
Upright Rows + Single Arm Rows
The upright row works your shoulders and upper back. Adding single arm rows on the left, then right, then both together helps build balanced strength and challenges your core.
Dead Bugs
One of the best core moves for stability. This helps strengthen your deep core muscles and protects your lower back.
Week three means we are pushing through and staying consistent. Keep showing up.
As you progress through Week 3 of the Drop It December fitness challenge, incorporating tempo squats, good mornings, upright rows, and dead bugs helps enhance muscle control, strength, and overall stability. Tempo squats, by slowing down the descent to three seconds, increase time under tension, which promotes better muscle activation in your glutes and legs, improving endurance and form. The good morning exercise is a crucial hinge movement targeting the posterior chain—mainly glutes, hamstrings, and lower back—which supports improved posture and injury prevention during daily activities. Using a moderate weight or bodyweight strengthens these muscles effectively while teaching safe movement patterns by hinging at the hips with a slight knee bend. Incorporating upright rows combined with single arm rows challenges your upper back and shoulders while engaging your core for balance and stability. Working each arm independently then together promotes muscular symmetry and helps correct imbalances that often develop from repetitive motions or one-sided activities. Dead bugs are excellent for building deep core stability by engaging the transverse abdominis and other supporting muscles that protect the lower back from strain. This move fosters spinal alignment and can relieve back discomfort commonly experienced by beginners and those with sedentary lifestyles. Consistency remains paramount this week, as patience and dedication will carry you through. Remember to focus on controlled, intentional movements to maximize benefits. These foundational exercises empower you to develop strength safely, preparing your body for more advanced challenges ahead. Keeping up with the #beginnerfriendlyworkouts, #dailyworkout, and #fitnesschallenge hashtags can connect you with a supportive community to stay motivated throughout the journey.
