Bye bye ig

When Instagram first started, it was just a place where I shared literally everything—from pics of my friends to random shit, and of course, the looksssss. I wasn’t posting w/ the intention of gaining followers tbh, but once I did, it kind of started feeling like there was pressure to keep posting. Lately though, Instagram to me feels really inauthentic and too calculated, and I just wasn’t feeling it (this doesn’t pertain to everyone btw). Also, like everyone says, there are too many monitoring spirits just watching my page. most of the people who engage with my posts are people who don’t follow me… Thinking about starting fresh

What started as a fun place to share moments, from everyday life to those carefully put-together "looks" – perhaps even showcasing a favorite white crop top, black shorts, and black knee-high boots on a bustling city street – has changed for many. The feeling of pure, unadulterated sharing often gives way to something else entirely. If you’re like me, you might have found yourself wondering why a platform designed for connection now feels so draining. One of the biggest reasons I hear, and certainly experienced myself, is the sheer pressure. What began as a casual photo dump can quickly morph into a competition for likes and followers. Suddenly, every post feels like an audition, and the joy of sharing evaporates under the weight of expectation. There’s this constant internal battle: do I post what I truly want, or what I think will perform well? This pressure cooker environment is far from the authentic space we initially loved. It makes you question if it's truly a reflection of your life or just a carefully curated highlight reel designed for external validation. Then there's the creeping sense of inauthenticity. With the rise of influencers and perfectly posed content, Instagram feeds can feel increasingly manufactured and less real. It's hard to scroll through endless streams of flawless lives without feeling a pang of comparison or inadequacy. This curated reality can be incredibly damaging to self-esteem and mental well-being. Many, myself included, started yearning for a space where genuine connection and raw sharing were valued over polished perfection. It’s exhausting trying to keep up with an image that isn’t entirely your own, especially when you’re just trying to share a fun outfit or a moment on a city street. Another significant factor is the feeling of being constantly watched – those "monitoring spirits" as some call them. It’s unsettling to realize that people who don’t even follow you are routinely engaging with your content. While growth can be exciting, it also brings a level of scrutiny that can make you feel exposed and vulnerable. For personal accounts, this can feel like an invasion of privacy, making you think twice before sharing anything truly personal. The original intention of sharing with friends gets lost when your audience feels undefined and potentially critical. Beyond these points, many users cite the immense time sink Instagram becomes. Hours can vanish scrolling mindlessly, pulling focus away from real-life interactions, hobbies, or even just moments of quiet reflection. There’s also the frustration with ever-changing algorithms that prioritize engagement over genuine interest, often burying posts from friends and family under a deluge of sponsored content and Reels from strangers. So, is deleting Instagram a good idea? For many, the answer is a resounding yes. Taking a step back can lead to remarkable improvements in mental health, reduced anxiety, and a greater sense of presence in the real world. It creates space for new interests, deeper connections, and a re-evaluation of what truly matters to you. While it might feel daunting initially, especially if you’ve used it for years, the liberation can be profound. You might find yourself rediscovering old hobbies, connecting with friends in more meaningful ways, or simply enjoying your life without the constant urge to document it for an online audience. It's about reclaiming your digital space and focusing on what genuinely brings you joy, whether that's sharing your passion for fashion or simply enjoying the quiet moments.

And this is why I love lemon8. It's new , fresh and free. I don't know anyone on here and I feel like I can post and share without being judged or a monitoring spirit. Lemon8 is also very positive. So much great information on here. I just love it for me. Thinking about deactivating my fb
