FOOD TO EAT AT BATAM

1. 🍽️ Garden Bay

📍 Harbour Bay Ferry Terminal GARDEN BAY

Located right beside the sea at Harbour Bay, where the ferries arrive. The whole stretch has a lot of restaurants that look pretty good too, but we chose this place because we specifically wanted to try their tenderloin. Lunch has 20% discount, do double check if it still ongoing!

🥩 Must Try

- Chateaubriand West River Tenderloin (500g Australian Beef)

- 580,000 IDR (~S$46-48)

Recommend getting it medium rare. We ordered medium well and felt it lost some of the tenderness. The salmon was cooked really well too.

🧀 They also recently added a Pasta Cheese Wheel to their menu. We didn’t get to try it this trip, but it looked really good and is honestly one of the reasons I’d want to come back again.

The restaurant itself is super nice and vibey. When we went, there were quite a few groups celebrating birthdays and special occasions, so everyone was dressed really nicely. No dress code though, so don’t worry.

📌 You can WhatsApp them beforehand if:

* You have a big group

* Have special requests

* Are visiting during weekends/public holidays

The waitresses were very welcoming and helpful throughout the meal.

⭐ Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

💰 Price: 580,000 IDR (~S$46-48) for 500g tenderloin

2. ☕ itc.h cafe

📍itc.h cafe (Near Grand Batam Mall)

Came here specifically for the shiopans and they did not disappoint. They have a huge variety of flavours and the quality was honestly better than expected.

📌 It’s located quite close to Grand Batam Mall. Technically you can walk there, but the route involves some back alleys, uneven roads and quite a few potholes.

🥐 Must Try

* Original Shiopan

* Kimchi Shiopan ( if you like kimchi)

The Original and Kimchi flavours were our favourites. The bread was soft, fluffy and addictive.

💰 Price Guide

- Original Shiopan: ~18,000 IDR

- Most flavoured Shiopans: ~30,000 IDR each

🍵 Matcha

Surprisingly really good. One of the better matcha drinks we had during the trip and it was only around 30,000+ IDR.

☕ Signature Coffee

⚠️ Their signature drink is Indonesian-level sweet. If you don’t have a sweet tooth, ask for less sugar or no sugar immediately.

📌 Great place to grab breakfast, a coffee, or some shiopans before heading back to Singapore.

⭐ Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

3. 🍰 Mula Patisserie

📍 Mula Patisserie ( near one batam mall that has gokart & shooting activity)

Everything we ordered here was amazing.

⚠️ There was around a 25-minute queue when we went at about 12:30pm–1pm. If you don’t want to wait, I’d recommend reserving beforehand.

🥧 Must Try

* Cheese Tart ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

* Mushroom Sourdough

* Dons

The cheese tart is SUPER good. I highly highly recommend ordering it unless you absolutely hate cheese.

🥤 Drinks We Tried

* Strawberry Refresher ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (my favourite)

* Coconut Cloud Matcha ⭐⭐⭐ (it was okay)

🍫 Dessert

* Dubai Chocolate Pistachio Crepe

The crepe was great but personally I’m not a huge Dubai chocolate fan. It is quite filling though, so don’t over-order.

⚠️ Coffee with any sweetener here also leans towards the sweeter side, so ask for less sugar if that’s not your thing.

⚠️ I would also avoid ordering ice americano

The cafe itself is beautiful and gives a very nice brunch vibe. Definitely one of my favourite cafe stops in Batam.

⭐ Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

4. 🦐 Love Seafood

📍 Near Nagoya Hill Mall

✅ Good prices

✅ Air-conditioned indoor seating

✅ Convenient location

If you’re staying around Nagoya Hill, this is a really easy seafood option without needing to travel far.

Nothing particularly fancy, but solid food at a reasonable price.

⭐ Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

❓ What We Tried That Isn’t Usually On Reco Lists

🍛 Warung Guling Pak Made

Balinese-style cuisine.

Food was decent, affordable, and the service was honestly amazing.

A few things to note:

1️⃣ Drinks are ridiculously sweet.

Like genuinely Indonesian-level sweet.

2️⃣ Air-conditioned and clean dining area.

3️⃣ If you’ve never tried Balinese-style noodles before, I’d recommend giving them a shot.

⚠️ There is a cafe further ahead from this restaurant. We went in and regretted it, so I’d personally skip that one.

Overall the food was okay, not mind-blowing, but worth trying if you want something different from the usual Batam cafes and seafood spots.

⭐ Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

🎁 Lapis (Layer Cake) Comparison

🥇 Lamoist

Our favourite layer cake from the trip.

The flavour was richer, more buttery, and overall felt more premium.

If you’re only bringing one lapis home, I’d go with this.

🥈 Lapis No.1

Still good, but we preferred Lamoist.

The version we bought uses both margarine and butter, so the flavour wasn’t as rich and buttery.

That said, it’s cheaper, so if you’re buying for a big family or office, it’s still a decent option.

🏆 Winner: Lamoist

... Read moreIf you're intrigued by itc.h cafe and want to explore their menu further, it's worth noting that they offer a variety of shiopan flavors beyond the popular original and kimchi versions. These fluffy, soft buns make a perfect breakfast or snack while visiting Batam. Personally, I found the matcha drink surprisingly authentic and refreshing, making it an excellent companion to the savory shiopans. For coffee lovers, a helpful tip is to ask for less sugar or no sugar, as the signature coffee tends to be very sweet, reflecting typical Indonesian sweetness levels. This customization greatly improved my experience and is something I recommend to others. Beyond itc.h cafe, Batam has many food spots catering to different tastes. Garden Bay’s Australian beef tenderloin is a highlight for steak enthusiasts, with a vibrant atmosphere ideal for celebrations. Mula Patisserie offers a cozy brunch vibe with incredible sweets like the cheese tart and strawberry refresher, though be prepared for queues during peak hours. Another great choice is Love Seafood close to Nagoya Hill Mall, offering good food with air-conditioned comfort and affordable prices. If you’re a fan of Balinese flavors, Warung Guling Pak Made provides a unique twist with decent dishes and excellent service. Lastly, for souvenir treats, the Lamoist layer cake stands out for its premium buttery flavor, making it the top pick if you want to bring home a signature Batam dessert. Exploring these options gives you a well-rounded taste of Batam’s dining scene, from local treats and seafood to international flavors and stylish cafes.
