I LOVE putting together activities for my kids, but let’s be real, they aren’t always a hit!! I’m sharing a few of my favorites and the honest truth about them. My kids are ages 3, 6 & 8. While these activities seem great for toddlers, my big kids have also really enjoyed them! I hope this helps give another mama some inspiration to try something new this summer! #activitiesforkids #toddleractivitiesathome #toddleractivities #sensoryplay #screenfreeplay #handsonlearning #sensoryplayideas #creatorsearchinsights

... Read moreWhen planning activities for toddlers and young children, balancing preparation effort with engagement time is key. Sensory play, which stimulates the senses through touch, sight, and sometimes smell, offers excellent developmental benefits and also keeps kids interested. For example, the Frozen Dino Eggs activity requires an overnight freeze and some fizzy play for added excitement; though the kids played only about 20 minutes, the sensory and discovery elements make it worthwhile. Simple setups like the Donut Shop activity, which uses pool noodles and shaving cream with toppings, can captivate kids for over an hour even though it can get messy. The hands-on nature of creating and pretending encourages creativity and fine motor skills. Similarly, Puffy Ice Cream Paint combines glue, shaving cream, and food coloring for an easy, mess-friendly craft that can last nearly an hour, perfect for little artists. The Ice Cream Sand Shop involves mixing flour and oil, creating a unique tactile experience that held kids' attention for 30 minutes—an excellent win considering the short attention span typical in toddlers. Activities involving shaving cream consistently score high in engagement, as it offers a fun texture for sensory exploration and can be combined with simple props like pool noodles to enhance imaginative play. On the other hand, the Pom Pom Water Table, despite easy setup, was less popular with slightly older kids but may better suit toddlers under two, illustrating the importance of matching activity complexity and novelty to the child’s age and interest. For parents and caregivers, these examples highlight how incorporating sensory elements and imaginative play themes while considering setup time can create more rewarding and screen-free experiences. Preparing a rotation of these tried-and-tested activities during summer can keep children engaged, encourage learning through play, and provide valuable bonding moments.

I'm scared for my guy under 2 to have small pompoms. Will try to find a sweet spot between 2 and 4 bc all kids are different with when they stop putting stuff in their mouth. love all these ideas!!
