Hump day
Morning mom life routine with a side of cleaning up toys 🤪 #momlifestyle #morning routine
You know that feeling when Tuesday just ended, and Wednesday morning hits, and you're already feeling the mid-week slump? Yep, that's hump day for moms! It's that point in the week where the initial weekend energy has completely worn off, but the next weekend still feels miles away. For me, hump day mornings often feel like a marathon before the sun is even fully up. My morning routine usually kicks off before the kids are even stirring. I try to sneak in a few moments of quiet, maybe a quick stretch or just sipping my coffee in peace before the beautiful chaos begins. But let's be real, sometimes that 'quiet moment' is just me staring blankly at the wall, wishing for five more minutes of sleep! Once the kids are awake, it's a whirlwind of getting them dressed, making breakfast (which inevitably gets critiqued, no matter how delicious), packing lunches, and trying to find matching socks – a task that should honestly be an Olympic sport. The energy levels are often lower mid-week, for both me and the little ones, making every request feel like a negotiation. And then there's the toy cleanup! It feels like a constant battle, doesn't it? No matter how many times we tidy up, within minutes, it looks like a toy store exploded. On a hump day morning, when my patience is already wearing thin, the sight of scattered LEGOs and dolls can be truly overwhelming. I used to let it get to me, feeling like I was constantly fighting a losing battle. But I've learned a few tricks to make it more manageable, especially when that mid-week fatigue sets in. One thing that's really helped is involving the kids in a quick 'power tidy' before we leave for school or start our day. We put on a fun, upbeat song, and everyone has to pick up as many toys as they can until the song ends. It turns a chore into a game, and even if not everything gets put away, it makes a significant dent. Another strategy I've adopted for hump day sanity is a 'toy rotation.' Instead of having all the toys out all the time, I rotate them every couple of weeks. This not only keeps things fresh for the kids but also drastically reduces the amount of clutter to clean up daily. Having designated spots for everything, even if it's just a big basket for all the stuffed animals, also makes a huge difference. Ultimately, surviving hump day as a mom is about embracing the imperfection and finding small ways to lighten the load. It's okay if the breakfast isn't gourmet, or if the toys aren't perfectly put away. What matters is that we're showing up, doing our best, and creating a loving home. Sharing these real-life moments, the struggles and the small victories, helps us all feel a little less alone in this incredible mom life journey.
