Tumble🤸🏽♀️
Connected our round off with our back handspring! Time to work on getting it on the floor now🤌🏽🤸🏽♀️ #tumbling #backhandspring #Lemon8Diary
Okay, so you've seen my little victory of finally linking my round off to my back handspring – what a feeling! But let me tell you, it wasn't an overnight success. If you're on your own back tumbling journey, working towards that seamless connection, I've picked up a few things that might help you too. First off, consistency is absolutely key. I spent so much time just drilling each part separately. For the round off, focus on that strong rebound. Think about pushing the floor away and really driving your hips up and over. It’s not just about getting your feet together, it’s about generating power for the next skill. A good drill I found helpful was doing round-offs onto a low wedge mat, focusing on landing light and ready to spring into the next movement. Then comes the back handspring itself. This is where a lot of mental blocks can creep in, believe me! If you're struggling with the 'throw back' part, try practicing backward rolls on a soft surface first to get comfortable with the sensation of going over. Another game-changer for me was perfecting my 'block' – that powerful push off the hands. Practicing handstand snap-downs to your feet, really emphasizing that strong shoulder shrug and quick hand push, builds the necessary strength and muscle memory. Don't skip the conditioning either! Strong core, shoulders, and legs are non-negotiable for safe and powerful back tumbling. Connecting them felt like putting two puzzles together that didn't quite fit at first. The trick for me was really focusing on the rebound from the round-off directly into the set for the back handspring. It's not two separate skills, but one fluid motion. Try doing your round-off, then immediately jumping onto a low mat or panel mat as if you’re setting for the handspring. This helps train your body to transition seamlessly without pausing. Visualize the entire move before you even start, from the run into the round-off, through the block, and into the handspring. And for those moments when you feel stuck, remember: every single tumbler has been there. Find a good spotter you trust, use plenty of mats, and don't be afraid to break it down into tiny steps. Celebrate the small wins, like a stronger round-off or a more confident back handspring. My next goal, as you know, is getting this combo consistently on the floor, so I'll be focusing on building even more power and refining my landing. What are your biggest back tumbling challenges right now? Let's cheer each other on!
