Journaling my way through the Bible 🌸

Hey everyone! I've been getting a lot of questions about how I keep my Bible study fresh and engaging, especially with my ESV Study Bible. It's truly become a cornerstone of my spiritual walk, and I've found that actively engaging with the text through journaling and note-taking makes all the difference. When I first started, I wasn't sure what 'open notes' really meant or how to make them effective. But seeing my Bible filled with my own scribbles, highlights, and reflections has been incredibly rewarding. For me, it's not just about reading; it's about wrestling with the text, letting it challenge me, and recording those 'aha!' moments. One of my favorite things to do is highlight key verses and then jot down a summary or a personal application right next to them. You might have seen some of my pages from Proverbs, where I've been focusing on themes like financial responsibility and the consequences of laziness. It's striking how relevant these ancient texts are to our modern lives! I also love using different colored pencils to categorize my notes – maybe one color for promises, another for commands, and a third for personal prayers. This really helps when I want to revisit a specific topic. Another tip I've discovered is to use those little book tabs to mark important sections or passages I want to come back to. It's super helpful for quickly finding lessons on wisdom versus folly, or passages about the power of wise words and honesty. My Bible is basically a colorful roadmap of my journey through God's Word! And don't be afraid to write down your questions, too! Sometimes, when a verse doesn't immediately make sense, I'll write '?' next to it and then come back after listening to a podcast or even asking ChatGPT for some context. It’s all about seeking greater understanding. For instance, when I was reading through Proverbs about discipline as love, I really spent time reflecting on what that means in my own life and how I can apply it. Consistency is key, but it doesn't have to be rigid. Some days, I just manage a few bullet points, and other days, I'll fill a whole page with reflections. The goal isn't perfection; it's presence. Just showing up and being open to seeking God's guidance through His Word.
