Patricia Ann Johnson-Eighmy 1945-2026
My mom passed away 3 weeks ago. It’s difficult for me to process this. She was an exceedingly strong willed woman who lived her life her way, by her own rules without exception. That is one trait I have always admired about her. I hate being in this club. How do you keep moving forward, living regular life, doing normal things knowing she’s not here? How does anyone get through something like this? I’m at the angry stage now. We had a strained relationship to say the least, but in the end, regardless of the past, I learned to love her and forgive her and now I’m left to mourn her. Life is just so unfair.
Losing a parent is an incredibly profound experience that reshapes your entire world. Reflecting on Patricia Ann Johnson-Eighmy’s passing, I’ve come to realize how complex grief is, especially when relationships were strained. It’s not just sadness; it’s an emotional rollercoaster that includes anger, regret, and sometimes relief. Being in that emotional space is overwhelming, but finding moments of forgiveness and love amidst the pain is essential for healing. One thing that helped me personally was allowing myself to feel everything without judgment — anger, sadness, confusion — and knowing that these emotions are part of the grieving process. I also found that sharing memories, even difficult ones, helped me reconnect with her humanity beyond our challenges. It’s important to remember that your grief journey is unique and doesn’t follow a linear path. Daily life feels so different after losing someone as close as a mother. Simple tasks can feel empty, and moving forward doesn’t mean forgetting but rather carrying their presence with you in a new way. Using rituals like looking at old photos, talking about her traits and influence, or even writing letters to her helped me hold on to her memory while accepting her absence. In the end, embracing the full spectrum of your emotions and allowing forgiveness to grow can bring unexpected peace. Patricia’s strong-willed nature and living by her own rules shaped both her life and mine. While mourning her loss is painful, honoring her spirit reminds me of the resilience and love that remain, even after goodbye.
