A cool spring day outfit

I’ve been forcing myself to wear something other than jeans recently , and it’s been an amazing way to wear things I have in my closet that I don’t typically gravitate towards.

I bought this kilt from Unearth Vintage and it’s one of my go-to winter skirts, but I wanted to style it for slightly warmer weather. I recently found the vest at a thrift store near my apartment (Yesterday’s News, check it out!) for a really good price. The two pieces don’t really have coordinated colors, but somehow they just work together.

It was too cold to go entirely jacket-less, so I layered a denim bolero jacket under my favorite 90s denim jacket (both pieces were under $35!). You can’t really see the bolero, but I just wanted a peek of the collar so it was perfect.

I finished it off with brown leather boots I thrifted for $9(!) and my holy grail eBay find - this Wilson’s leather bag that is almost identical to the Chloe FW 2003 bag that I’m sure you’ve seen on Pinterest. It was only $100, and it’s big enough to hold my entire life.

... Read moreSpring weather can be so unpredictable, right? One minute it's crisp and cool, the next the sun is shining. That's why I've found that a denim jacket is an absolute MVP for spring layering! It's that perfect transitional piece that can dress down a more formal item or add a touch of casual cool to any look. I often get asked how to make a denim jacket feel fresh each spring, and it really comes down to the layers you choose to pair it with. My go-to strategy for a chic layered denim jacket outfit in spring starts with finding pieces that offer interesting textures or patterns. Instead of automatically reaching for jeans, I love to experiment with skirts – like a vintage plaid kilt, for instance! A kilt brings a unique, preppy-yet-edgy feel that perfectly complements a classic denim jacket. Underneath the jacket, a simple base layer like a fitted tee or a light knit sweater works wonders. But to really elevate it, I often add a vest. A tailored red vest, for example, can add a pop of color and a touch of sophistication, making the whole outfit feel more intentional and less thrown-together. Think about how those different elements, like the denim, the wool of a kilt, and the fabric of a vest, play off each other. When it comes to the denim jacket itself, don't be afraid to think outside the box. While a classic blue wash is always in style, a 90s denim jacket with a slightly oversized fit or a lighter wash can give your look a different feel. I often layer a denim bolero jacket under my main denim jacket for an extra peek of collar or cuff, adding another subtle layer of interest without bulk. This is especially good for those days that start chilly but warm up later. Footwear is key to finishing off any layered spring outfit. Brown boots, especially thrifted leather ones, are incredibly versatile. They pair beautifully with a kilt and denim jacket combo, grounding the look and adding a touch of rustic charm. If it's a warmer spring day, you could swap them for stylish sneakers or even loafers. And let's not forget accessories! A vintage brown leather bag, perhaps a lucky eBay find, can tie the whole ensemble together. Look for details that tell a story, like unique hardware or a distressed finish. A simple green cap can also add a playful, casual element. Thrifting and vintage shopping have become my secret weapons for creating unique layered looks. Not only is it budget-friendly, but it also allows you to find one-of-a-kind pieces that truly reflect your personal style. It’s all about mixing and matching, finding those unexpected combinations, and confidently rocking your cool spring day outfit!
