A week worth of vacation looks
I just got back from a fabulous (and warm) week in Turks & Caicos. Spring and summer usually results in me wearing a tshirt and jeans, but for some reason vacation makes me want to dress in more exciting and special outfits. I tried my best to use pieces I already have in my rotation and challenged myself to style them in new ways. However, I did cave a buy a few pieces. I fell in love with the Reformation maxi linen skirt, but it felt a bit too formal for the casual island dinner I was dressing for. So I hunted for a bit and found this amazing skirt from Urban Outfitters (for a fraction of the cost). I also purchased an Aritzia vest to match - I love a tonal look. The rest of the looks are mainly thrifted, with most of the pieces being things I already had.
However, my spring shoe collection is lacking. I’ve been debating buying flats for a while, and I thought this was as good a reason as any to finally buy a pair (or two). Both are from Zara, and are surprisingly comfortable.
Thinking about my Turks & Caicos trip, I realized how much I love curating a vacation wardrobe that feels special but is also super practical. It's all about maximizing a few key pieces to create a week's worth of stunning looks without overpacking. I aimed for that effortless 'island girl' vibe, perfect for any beach destination, and here’s how I pulled it off, plus some extra tips from my experience! First off, versatility is your best friend when packing for a warm destination like Turks & Caicos. Take a classic striped shirt, for instance. I wore mine with light pants for a casual daytime look, perfect for exploring or grabbing lunch. But imagine that same shirt unbuttoned over a swimsuit as a chic cover-up, or even tied at the waist with a high-waisted skirt for an evening stroll. It’s amazing how many different outfits you can create with just one piece! Another game-changer for me was embracing linen. Seriously, if you're wondering what to wear in Turks & Caicos, linen is the answer! My white vest paired with a white linen maxi skirt was a dream. During the day, it's breezy and comfortable. For evening, I just added a black vintage belt to cinch the waist and elevated it with some black mesh flats. The beauty of a maxi skirt is its ability to transition seamlessly from day to night, beach to dinner. And let's talk about swimwear that isn't just for swimming. I loved wearing my black one-piece bathing suit with sheer white linen pants for a stylish poolside lunch. Add a silk bandana scarf in your hair or tied to your woven leather bag, and you instantly look put-together. It’s all about layering and choosing pieces that have multiple uses. Footwear is crucial. While my spring shoe collection was lacking, finding those Zara flats was a revelation. They were surprisingly comfortable for walking around and chic enough for evenings. Beyond flats, consider a pair of orange satin mules for a pop of color and a touch of elegance, or simple, comfortable sandals that can handle sand and city streets. Remember, you'll be doing a lot of walking, so comfort is key, but style doesn't have to suffer! Don't underestimate the power of accessories. A statement belt, like my vintage one, can completely transform a simple knit top and wide-leg pants. A pearl necklace adds a touch of classic sophistication, while a vibrant vintage silk scarf can inject personality into any outfit. These small details are what make an outfit go from good to 'cute hot outfit' worthy. For those planning a trip specifically for February, Turks & Caicos is beautifully warm, but evenings can sometimes bring a gentle breeze. I always recommend packing a light, long-sleeved cover-up or a stylish jacket that you can easily throw on. This ensures you're comfortable whether you’re enjoying dinner on the beach or sipping cocktails under the stars. And don't forget a chic pajama set for lounging around your accommodation – because even your downtime outfits can be stylish! By mixing thrifted finds with a few new, versatile pieces, I managed to create a vacation capsule that felt fresh and exciting every day. It’s proof that you don’t need an entirely new wardrobe to look fabulous on your next tropical getaway!
