We were basically children, but we just couldn’t wait. I had just had surgery 5 weeks before and found out I may never be able to have kids, but he said, “well, you said you wanted to adopt, as long as you’re okay, I’m happy.” He has never wavered on it either.

Nowadays I see cute videos of people going to the courthouse with white dresses, bouquets, and a photographer. I gave my parents 30 minutes notice, we wore shirts we received for Christmas and got Zaxby’s on the way to Fort Bragg right after. It wasn’t picturesque in any way, it was sure what my southern mama’s nightmares were made of, but I love watching the video and just seeing how excited and sure we were.

Sometimes high school sweethearts are told we settled, or missed the opportunity to explore. But I think you can see it all over our faces, we knew what we had and wanted to make it forever.

For over half my life J has been the pillar of strength in my life. Even when we were young, broke, and figuring it out he always made sure I was taken care of. He’s never made me feel crazy, always answered my questions, and walked into my chaos with a smile and steady hand.

Happy Anniversary bub!
