New CAREER

I am on my journey in my new career as a licensed health insurance agent. I knew it was going to be ALOT but man there is tons of information.

I decided to make my own study guide binder. A cheat sheet if you will. I can’t lie everytime I look at women in their career on social media all I see is nursing .. and I hate not seeing other career fields being highlighted.

I started my big girl job last week and my job is to help educate our elderly loved ones on their options of Medicare parts A-D

I am so excited for this next chapter in my life and I can’t wait to see where my career takes me.

What’s your occupation?

... Read moreStarting a new career, especially in a field as vital as health insurance, can feel like diving into a massive ocean of information. When I embarked on my journey to become a licensed health insurance agent, focusing on Medicare, I quickly realized the depth of knowledge required. It's not just about understanding policies; it's about genuinely helping individuals navigate complex choices for their well-being. For those of you exploring health insurance careers or considering a Medicare consultant job, let me share a bit about what I've learned. A licensed health insurance agent acts as a guide, helping people understand their options for health coverage. With Medicare, specifically, this means breaking down the intricacies of Parts A, B, C, and D, explaining eligibility, enrollment periods, and how different plans can impact someone's healthcare and finances. It's incredibly rewarding work, knowing you're making a tangible difference in someone's life, especially for our elderly population who often find these decisions overwhelming. The path to becoming licensed typically involves several steps. First, you'll need to complete pre-licensing education, which covers general insurance principles and specific state regulations. Then comes the state licensing exam, which, trust me, is no walk in the park! The sheer volume of material can be daunting, which is why creating my own study guide has been invaluable. It helps condense complex information into digestible, actionable points. You'll need to be proficient in everything from policy types to ethical practices and consumer protection laws related to INSURANCE. Don't underestimate the power of consistent study and practice exams. One of the biggest appeals for me in this new chapter is the flexibility that often comes with these roles. Many health insurance agent and Medicare consultant jobs offer remote work options, allowing for a better work-life balance. My typical day involves learning new regulations, reviewing plan details, and preparing to assist clients. It’s a continuous learning curve, but incredibly engaging. The satisfaction of helping someone find the right plan, explaining their benefits, and ensuring they feel secure about their healthcare is truly unmatched. If you're thinking about transitioning into this field, my advice is to research thoroughly. Look into various companies – from large carriers to independent brokerages – and consider what kind of support and training they offer. While I can't recommend specific employers, remember that platforms like Glassdoor can offer general insights into company culture and employee experiences, which might help you gauge potential fits. When preparing your application, always tailor your resume to highlight any customer service, sales, or healthcare-related experience you may have. Emphasize your communication skills and your ability to learn complex information quickly. This career is about building trust and offering clear, compassionate guidance, and those qualities shine through in a well-crafted application. It's a challenging but deeply fulfilling journey, and I’m so excited to see where it takes me!
