FOOD | MOTHERHOOD | FUN
I’m Kennedy, the girl who make 5 ingredient, $10 dinner in 30 minutes or less! That’s why I went viral. But there is so much more to me than realistic recipes (which I love). I have a toddler and a newborn. We are learning ASL as a family. I’m in Utah. I love home decor and some occasional fashion and beauty. #gettoknowme Utah
Hey everyone! So many of you have asked how I juggle family life with cooking delicious, budget-friendly meals, especially with a toddler and a newborn in tow. It's definitely a balancing act, but I've found that embracing my "5-10-30" philosophy makes all the difference when it comes to family food. This isn't just about saving money and time; it's about making mealtime enjoyable and less stressful for everyone, including the little ones! When I talk about 'kids cooking recipes,' I mean a few things. First, recipes that are simple enough that older kids can help prepare, fostering a love for food and cooking from a young age. Second, meals that are universally loved by picky eaters (a challenge for any mom, right?). And third, recipes that are quick to get on the table so you're not spending hours in the kitchen after a long day of 'motherhood' duties. Here are a few quick tips I live by to make 'kids cooking recipes' a breeze: Prep Ahead: Even 15 minutes of chopping veggies or pre-measuring spices on a Sunday can save you a ton of time during the week. This is key for those 30-minute dinner goals! Involve Them Safely: My toddler loves to 'help' stir ingredients in a bowl (with supervision, of course!) or tear lettuce for a salad. Even small tasks make them feel included and more likely to try the food. For slightly older kids, simple tasks like counting out 5 ingredients or setting a timer for 30 minutes can be a fun way to engage them. Keep it Simple: Don't overcomplicate things. Stick to 5 main ingredients. This reduces grocery costs and cooking complexity. It's about 'fun' and nourishment, not gourmet perfection every night. Embrace Theme Nights: Taco Tuesday, Pizza Friday – these structured nights reduce decision fatigue and often use similar kid-friendly ingredients. Let me share one of my go-to "5-ingredient, 30-minute" kid-friendly dinners: Cheesy Chicken & Broccoli Pasta. Ingredients: 1 box (16 oz) pasta (any shape your kids love!) 1 lb cooked chicken, shredded or diced (rotisserie chicken is a lifesaver!) 1 bag (12 oz) frozen broccoli florets 1 jar (24 oz) alfredo sauce 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Instructions (30 minutes max!): Cook pasta according to package directions. While it's cooking, you can steam the broccoli or microwave it until tender-crisp. Drain pasta. Return to the pot. Stir in the cooked chicken, steamed broccoli, and alfredo sauce. Heat gently over low heat, stirring until warmed through. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and gooey. Serve immediately! This meal is not only quick and budget-friendly (fitting the '$10 dinner' concept if you're smart with sales), but it's also packed with flavor and nutrients that kids usually enjoy. Plus, it’s a recipe where little hands can help stir the sauce or sprinkle the cheese, making it a true 'kids cooking recipe' experience. It's all about making 'food' and 'motherhood' a little more 'fun' every day!
