Don't buy Cardboard Houses!! (Make this instead)

I was scrolling on Walmart’s website for Christmas decor and saw they were selling cardboard gingerbread houses...

With the holidays around the corner I realized I was sitting in a literal fortress of Walmart and Amazon boxes from my Christmas shopping.

Why pay for cardboard when I have a ton of it???

So I made them myself!

It cost me $0 and it was super fun, even had the kids decorate some for the playroom!

Has anyone else turned their trash into treasure this year? Give me your ideas!!!

Instead of buying expensive cardboard gingerbread houses, you can easily create your own using the boxes accumulated from deliveries. This eco-friendly DIY approach not only reduces waste but also promotes creativity and family bonding. Start by gathering some sturdy cardboard boxes like those from Walmart or Amazon deliveries. Using a paint marker, you can draw house shapes with doors and windows. Cut out the windows and enhance them by attaching sheer paper behind the cutouts to mimic stained glass or frosted windows, adding a cozy glow when lights are placed inside. Stringing small LED lights through the houses amplifies the festive ambiance, and adding fake snow or cotton around the base creates a charming winter scene. Best of all, this project costs absolutely nothing since the materials come from your recycling stack. Involving children in decorating the houses can be a delightful creative activity. Kids can use markers, stickers, glitter, or paint to personalize their houses, making the decor even more special and unique to your family. These handmade cardboard houses can be placed in the playroom, on shelves, or as part of your holiday centerpiece. Many people have embraced upcycling in their holiday decor to save money and reduce environmental impact. Platforms like Lemon8 and Pinterest are full of creative ideas where users share how they transform ordinary cardboard boxes into festive masterpieces. This not only reflects a budget-conscious mindset but also a commitment to sustainable living. So if you’re sitting on a mountain of boxes this Christmas season, don’t throw them away! Transform them into charming cardboard gingerbread houses that brighten your home and bring joy to your loved ones. Sharing your creations with communities tagged #DIYChristmas, #UpcycledDecor, and #BudgetDecor can inspire others to join the movement of turning trash into treasure.
