Late Night Talks with God
Every night I pray In my journal instead of praying out loud or in my head. Writing them down is better for me. Benefits:
-I can get all of my prayers out without being in a rush
-My mind doesn’t go blank
-My prayers are more long and sincere
-I feel more connected to God by pouring out everything on paper
-if I leave out something , I can go back before i fall asleep and add to it
-I can look back at any day and see the prayers that were answered (which is all bc my God is an Awesome God 🥺)
Embracing a nightly ritual of writing journal night thoughts has completely transformed my spiritual life. For years, I struggled with keeping my focus during night prayer, my mind wandering, or feeling rushed. But then I discovered the profound peace and clarity that comes from pouring my heart onto paper before bed. It's truly become my most intimate late night talk with God. There's something uniquely sacred about the quiet of the night. As the world winds down, it feels like the perfect time to connect on a deeper level. Instead of just speaking prayers into the air, writing them down captures every thought, every feeling, every concern. It's not just about asking for things; it’s about reflection, gratitude, and processing the day with a divine perspective. I often find myself writing down blessings I might have overlooked, or gaining clarity on challenges I’m facing, simply by articulating them in my personal prayer journal. Even when the news of the world feels heavy, like hearing about fire victims or other global crises, my journal becomes a sacred space for intercession. I might not have lengthy, eloquent words, but even a short prayer written down, specifically for those suffering, feels incredibly powerful and purposeful. I can dedicate a specific page to urgent requests, pouring out my compassion and faith for specific people or situations. It helps me focus my intention and ensures that no one is forgotten in my prayers, no matter how brief the entry. If you're thinking about starting your own prayer journal, it doesn't have to be complicated. Any open lined journal will do! I personally love making mine a little special – choosing a soft-covered journal, and using my favorite pink pen to write. Sometimes, I even add little decorative flower doodles in the margins, and seeing my thoughts flow in purple ink makes the experience even more personal and engaging. It’s not about perfection, but about connection. Write whatever comes to mind: your dreams, your anxieties, your gratitude, reflections on scripture, or specific requests for your loved ones and the world. The beauty is that you can always go back and add more, or revisit previous entries to see how God has moved in your life, witnessing those answered prayers firsthand. It's a journey of faith documented, a testament to God's faithfulness, and a practice I truly believe can enrich anyone's spiritual walk.
