day in the life of a healthcare worker 🩶

⭐️ Welcome to my day as an orthopedic MA ! ⭐️

I spent most of my MA career working in family medicine, and just recently made the transition to specialty office- in orthopedics. I LOVE what I do , and love the team I work for.

Certain days I’m in clinic rooming for my PA , and other days I’m scheduling surgeries for my surgeon. A lot goes on behind the scenes with every job in healthcare, and we all play a vital role in overall patient health! 🩼

On scheduling mornings, I start by :

- Going over patients charts on the upcoming schedule and verify I have everything I need pre-operatively

- Check emails for any notifications or faxes from other offices/ hospitals

- Check my voicemails and return calls if any

In the afternoons:

- Call patients to schedule them for surgery

- Go over pre-op and post-op instructions

- Set up physical therapy and order DME

- Put together surgery packets to mail out to patients

On clinic days💉:

- Mornings start with reviewing patient charts and prepping exam rooms before the first wave of patients

- Room patients and obtain accurate vitals and documentation

- Assist with office procedures (ex: joint draining or joint injections)

- Removing staples and stitches at 2 week post ops

-Schedule MRI’s

-Call patients with imaging results

It’s a fast-paced role that requires organization and attention to detail, but knowing I’m helping patients take the next step toward healing makes it all worth it 💞 🩼

In my role as a surgery scheduler, I engage closely with patients, reviewing charts, and verifying pre-operative requirements. Each morning starts with a thorough check of my calendar, syncing work and personal commitments, a vital step in maintaining organization in this fast-paced environment. Besides scheduling, on clinic days, I am directly involved in patient interactions, from taking vital signs to assisting with minor procedures like joint injections. This hands-on experience is not just about procedural tasks, but also about understanding the intricacies of patient care, including communicating vital pre- and post-operative instructions. The role demands a blend of meticulous organization and compassionate patient interaction. Healthcare is a collaborative endeavor, and the role of a medical assistant seamlessly integrates different aspects of patient management, contributing to an efficient healthcare system. As a healthcare worker, I'm passionate about bridging gaps between patients and their treatment pathways. I invite fellow healthcare workers to share their daily experiences and roles; together, we shape a holistic healthcare experience for patients everywhere.
