I’ll admit that I’ve been a bit out of it due to grief… but no more excuses… One of my accountability partners said “take whatever is weighing on you to the treadmill or side walk for a good run. Couple that with giving God thanks! 🙏🏾“ I needed that!!!
When facing emotional challenges like grief, physical activity paired with a mindful attitude can truly make a difference. From my own experience, taking a walk or going for a run helps me shift my focus away from overwhelming feelings and redirect that energy in a positive way. Adding the practice of gratitude amplifies this effect — thanking God or simply appreciating small blessings encourages a more hopeful and balanced mindset. I found that starting with small, manageable runs on the treadmill or even a quick stroll outside serves as a therapeutic ritual. It allows me to confront the feelings I’m carrying, then release them bit by bit. It’s important to remember not to rush the healing process — even a few minutes spent walking while reflecting or praying can lift the weight from your heart. Incorporating gratitude doesn’t require a special setting. Whether it’s during your run, after, or anytime during the day, actively acknowledging things to be thankful for transforms your mental space. Over time, this creates a positive feedback loop, improving motivation and emotional resilience. Accountability partners can also provide invaluable support by encouraging consistency and offering gentle reminders when you might fall back into old patterns. For me, having someone say, "Take what’s weighing on you to the treadmill," turned out to be exactly what I needed to start moving forward again. If you’re dealing with grief, consider combining physical movement with gratitude practices. Start slowly, be patient with yourself, and embrace the healing journey step by step.
