The Sunday scaries were already creeping in… and now the forecast says storms all day tomorrow.
Which means… indoor recess.
With 37 preschoolers.
Thirty-seven tiny humans with the energy of espresso shots and the decision-making skills of raccoons in a trash can.
No playground.
No running it out.
Just 37 small people bouncing off the classroom walls.
If you don’t hear from me tomorrow, assume I’ve been taken hostage by glitter, snack requests, and someone yelling “TEACHER HE TOUCHED ME.”

Children at this age can become easily overwhelmed and may exhibit behaviors such as yelling or disputes—this is where calm guidance is necessary. Setting clear expectations and gentle reminders about personal space and respectful communication helps maintain order. Regarding unexpected moments like the classic “TEACHER HE TOUCHED ME” call-outs, developing a system to address these calmly and fairly ensures that every child feels heard and safe, which in turn reduces classroom tension. Lastly, reaching out for backup or support on days like these, whether from fellow teachers or aides, can make a substantial difference. It prevents burnout and ensures the children receive adequate supervision and engagement. All in all, while indoor recess with 37 preschoolers during stormy Sunday scaries can feel overwhelming, with the right strategies for snacks, activities, patience, and support, it can turn into a manageable and even rewarding experience.
