Being a teacher for military kids is more than just a job—it’s a privilege that fills my heart in ways I can’t fully explain. Every single day, I get to witness strength, resilience, and courage that goes far beyond their years. These children face constant change, long separations, and sacrifices that many don’t see… yet they show up, they smile, they push forward.
They are the reason I come to work.
As a military wife and a mom to military kids myself, my admiration runs even deeper. I’ve seen firsthand the tears, the worry, the goodbyes… but also the bravery, the pride, and the unbreakable spirit they carry. It’s not an easy life, but these kids handle it with a strength that inspires me daily.
Today, we Purple Up to honor them—to recognize their sacrifices, their resilience, and the incredible role they play behind the scenes.
To all my military kids: I see you, I admire you, and I am so incredibly proud of you 💜

Having worked closely with these children, I can attest to their incredible adaptability. They often move every few years, which means adjusting to new schools, making new friends, and constantly adapting to unfamiliar environments. This transient lifestyle fosters resilience and social skills that many children take years to develop.
Living as a military family member myself, I’ve noticed the emotional complexities these kids experience. Deployments can be particularly tough—not just the long goodbyes but the uncertainty that comes with a parent’s absence. Despite this, many children show remarkable emotional strength, engaging in activities and schoolwork with a maturity beyond their years. Celebrating Purple Up Day with them is a beautiful way to acknowledge these sacrifices and provide emotional support.
Additionally, community support plays a critical role in their well-being. Schools often organize events like Purple Up Day to create a safe space for military kids to share their experiences and connect with others facing similar situations. These moments help reduce feelings of isolation and foster a sense of pride in their identity.
For anyone who interacts with military families, it’s essential to recognize and honor these children's contributions and bravery. Wearing purple and participating in Purple Up Day activities is a simple yet impactful way to show solidarity and appreciation.
In my experience, these kids don’t just survive the challenges—they thrive, becoming strong, compassionate individuals ready to contribute meaningfully to society. Purple Up Day reminds us all to pause, appreciate, and support their unique journey.
