Having suffered from migraines myself, I completely relate to how debilitating they can be, especially when you have a demanding job like teaching young children. The priority I always give is to create an environment that supports recovery — that means plenty of rest, keeping hydrated, and most importantly, minimizing noise and sensory distractions. These steps help prevent the migraine from worsening and can shorten its duration. It's useful to listen to your body’s needs: when a migraine hits, it’s a signal to pause usual activities. Sometimes, taking a break from screens and dimming the lights at home can also relieve symptoms. Drinking water regularly beforehand is beneficial because dehydration often triggers headaches. When possible, I also find gentle stretching or deep breathing exercises helpful in calming the tension that accompanies migraines. Above all, communicating openly about your condition, whether to colleagues or family, makes a big difference in managing expectations during these episodes. Creating a consistent routine that prioritizes self-care can reduce the frequency of migraines, improving overall quality of life. This is especially important for teachers who need to be fully present and energetic for their students.
