Mothers day !
Mother’s Day hits a little different this year…
These two are the reason I even get to celebrate it in the first place. They drive me absolutely crazy 🥴—like, I’ve had moments where I look at them and think, “where did I go wrong?” (and yes, that thought applies to BOTH of them because they are definitely… special).
There are days I wish I could rewind time and have them back at 5 years old again—when life was simpler, snacks solved everything, and I was still convinced I had a clue what I was doing as a mom.
I’ve fought battles most “typical” moms don’t even think about. I’ve advocated, pushed, protected, and showed up in ways that didn’t always come with support—especially navigating military life and all the other layers that come with it. A lot of it I did alone, even when I didn’t feel strong enough to.
I’ve been called a helicopter mom, a bad mom, an amazing mom, and “mom goals” all in the same breath… and I’ve managed to believe all of it at different times. Mostly I’ve just been here trying my best, beating myself up when I fall short, and still showing up the next day anyway.
But through all of it—confusion, chaos, second-guessing, and exhaustion—I love these two with everything in me. I can’t imagine life without them… even if they didn’t make me breakfast this morning or send me to Disney like I clearly deserve 😂✌🏽
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms doing their best in the middle of the mess.
Motherhood truly is a journey filled with unpredictable moments and deep emotions. From my own experience, there are days when I feel like I’m barely keeping it together, yet those moments also deepen the bond I have with my children. Particularly for moms balancing unique circumstances like military life, the challenges can include frequent moves, single parenting periods, and managing kids’ stability amidst constant change. One thing I've learned is that it's okay to feel overwhelmed and second-guess yourself sometimes. Being labeled a “helicopter mom” or hearing conflicting judgments can shake your confidence, but it’s important to hold onto the fact that you are doing your best in circumstances that not everyone understands. Snacks and simple moments—like reminiscing about the days when the kids were five and life felt simpler—can be grounding during stressful times. Taking time to appreciate these moments helps maintain perspective, reminding us why we keep pushing forward despite exhaustion. Mother’s Day for me has become less about perfect celebrations and more about recognizing the strength it takes to show up every day. Through confusion and chaos, the unconditional love for our children remains the constant. To all the moms out there doing their best amidst the mess, your efforts are valid, your love is powerful, and you are never alone on this journey.
