What Do You Think About Being A Girls Girl?

The reason I’m not a girls girl is because it’s fake ! If I’m in the wrong HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE! It’s okay to not be right all the time ! Everybody is a girls girl until a woman is getting her happy ending , that new job, the house , the ring , the wedding . Now all of a sudden there’s no support anymore ! If it’s gonna be a SISTERHOOD then let it be exactly THAT ! Y’all only uplift people when you wouldn’t switch positions with them or you feel superior or you’re doing better than them ! Somebody needs to say it 🤏🏾 ! Sometimes WOMEN are WOMEN’S BIGGEST DOWN FALL !

... Read moreReading the original post really resonated with me, and it brings up a conversation many of us have had in hushed tones: Is the 'girls' girl' concept truly authentic, or can it sometimes feel undeniably fake? It's a question that pops up a lot, and for good reason. We often see the expectation of unwavering female support, yet the reality can be far more complex, leaving many of us feeling let down or even betrayed. It highlights a critical point: while the ideal of women uplifting women is beautiful, its execution can fall short. Why does it feel this way? I think part of it stems from societal pressures that often pit women against each other, whether it's in careers, relationships, or even just appearance. We're subtly (or not-so-subtly) encouraged to compete, which can make genuine celebration of another woman's success challenging for some. When someone you know lands that dream job, gets the ring, or simply achieves something fantastic, the 'girls' girl' narrative suggests you should be ecstatic. But if envy or insecurity creeps in, that support can turn performative, or worse, disappear entirely. It’s especially disheartening when the cheers stop the moment you find your happy ending and reach a new level of success or happiness. This gap between expectation and reality is precisely where the 'fake' feeling emerges. True sisterhood, in my experience, goes far beyond superficial compliments or simply agreeing with everything. It's about holding each other accountable with kindness, celebrating wins without reservation, and offering a shoulder to cry on even when it's inconvenient. It's about being genuinely happy for another woman's glow-up, whether she's rocking a new stylish look, like the woman with the blue hair and cool sunglasses in the image, or achieving a major life goal. It's recognizing that her success doesn't diminish yours, but rather, can inspire it. It means being a cheerleader not just for the underdog, but for the one thriving, knowing that her light doesn't dim yours. I've learned to distinguish between friends who offer 'support' only when they feel superior or when your struggles make them feel better about their own, versus those who uplift you unconditionally. The latter are the real gems. They're the ones who will give you honest advice, even if it's tough to hear, because they genuinely want to see you thrive. They won't disappear when things are going great for you; instead, they'll be there to pop the champagne and truly share in your joy. It's about showing up authentically, even when it's challenging, and choosing integrity over convenience in our female friendships. So, how do we foster these deeper, more authentic connections? First, practice self-awareness. Recognize your own insecurities and work on them, so they don't project onto others. Second, seek out women who genuinely inspire you and who demonstrate the kind of support you want to give and receive. Third, be brave enough to have honest conversations, even if they're difficult. If you feel a friend is struggling with your success, address it with empathy. Finally, be the change you wish to see. Be that unwavering support for other women, hold them accountable with love, and celebrate their victories fiercely. Building these authentic connections takes effort and vulnerability from both sides. It means choosing empathy over judgment, collaboration over competition, and understanding that every woman's journey is unique. Let's aim not just to be 'girls' girls' in name, but to embody a sisterhood rooted in integrity, mutual respect, and unwavering support, especially when it matters most, truly proving that women can be each other's greatest allies.
