I got my philtrum pierced so you don’t have to!
I’ve been wanting this piercing for years now, and I finally got it done during a piercing special at one of my local shops where you only had to pay for the piercing and not the jewelry. The piercer who did it was great, but I had a terrible experience with their main piercer after I needed to go in and get a larger post to accommodate the swelling. She is always mean to me when I see her and I finally called her out… but I started crying out of frustration and made myself look dumb😒 why do I do that??
The piercing itself was not a sharp, shooting pain like I was expecting! Even the days after, the only sharp pain was when I’d accidentally hit the ring at an angle. I’ve always been so scared to get an oral piercing and so far this is not painful at all, probably a 2/10, but the swelling is concerning lol

Getting a philtrum piercing, commonly known as a Medusa piercing, can be an exciting yet daunting experience. Many people consider the pain associated with the procedure; however, personal experiences vary significantly. My piercing turned out to be less painful than I anticipated, rated only a 2/10. This relatively low pain level might stem from the expertise of the piercer and their technique. Aftercare is critical, especially to manage swelling, which is a common issue with oral piercings. A common misconception is that oral piercings require intricate jewelry or complicated maintenance. In reality, the healing process can often be managed with a few straightforward techniques, such as using saline solutions and avoiding irritants. It’s essential to keep the area clean and to follow any specific aftercare instructions provided by your piercer. Swelling post-piercing can vary from person to person. Some individuals report significant swelling, while others experience only minor discomfort. If swelling becomes excessive, it is advisable to consult your piercer to determine if a jewelry change or other intervention is necessary. Being proactive about your piercing care can greatly enhance your healing process and overall experience. If you’re considering a philtrum piercing, take the time to research and choose an experienced, reputable piercer—this can make a significant difference in your experience. Engaging with online forums and social media groups can also offer valuable insights into others’ experiences and provide a community for support. Remember, every piercing journey is unique, and knowledge is key to a successful and enjoyable experience!
