✨ Deuteronomy 30:6 — The Truth About Our Hearts
“The Lord your God will circumcise your heart
and the heart of your offspring,
so that you will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live.”
— Deut. 30:6
This verse has been sitting heavy on my heart today.
It reminded me of something the Bible says about our inner nature:
“The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately sick; who can understand it?”
— Jeremiah 17:9
Our heart is the most deceptive part of us.
We can’t trust it.
We can’t conquer it.
We can’t “feel” our way into loving God.
And honestly? What a relief.
Because I’ve spent so many years trying to make myself “better,” trying to fix myself, trying to change my own nature…
and I can’t.
None of us can.
But we can surrender our heart to God.
And Deuteronomy 30:6 makes that so clear:
God never expected us to transform our own heart.
He’s the One who does the changing.
We don’t make ourselves love Him more.
We don’t cleanse our own motives.
We don’t create our own righteousness.
We offer our heart — and HE reshapes it.
But this doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing.
A changed heart leads to a changed life.
We still walk in His ways.
We still obey His commands.
We still choose righteousness.
God’s transformation of the heart is what makes obedience possible.
Transformation leads to obedience — not away from it.
This is why Moses uses the word circumcise:
God cuts away what we can’t.
He removes what we don’t even see.
He heals what we could never fix.
And as a parent… this is the part that moves me the most:
“and the heart of your offspring.”
God’s work in our heart doesn’t stop with us.
A surrendered heart becomes a generational blessing.
It creates a ripple we could never create alone.
It plants seeds of faith in our children that we could never plant by our own strength.
It forms a spiritual legacy.
It means our obedience today becomes spiritual protection for them tomorrow.
It gives me so much peace knowing that God is working in the hearts of our little ones even when we can’t see it.
This is the truth that frees me:
We are powerless to change our own hearts —
but God is powerful enough to make them new.
All He asks is that we surrender.
