Hey everyone! So, you've seen my 'morning with me' post from my spring semester, and maybe it got you thinking about your own college mornings. I totally get it – balancing classes, studying, social life, and still trying to feel human can be tough! That's why I wanted to share a bit more about why having a solid college morning routine has been a game-changer for me, and some tips on how you can build one for yourself. When I started college, my mornings were… chaotic, to say the least. I was either scrambling out the door, forgetting something important, or hitting snooze five too many times. I quickly realized that starting my day stressed out set the tone for everything else. So, I decided to get serious about creating a routine that actually works for a student lifestyle. Here’s what I’ve learned about crafting a successful morning routine for college students: First, start small and be realistic. Don't try to overhaul everything overnight. Maybe you just add one new habit, like drinking a glass of water right when you wake up, or making your bed. For me, just getting up 15 minutes earlier than I thought I needed to was a huge win. It gave me breathing room. Second, think about what makes you feel good and productive. My routine usually includes a few non-negotiables: Hydration & Movement: A big glass of water first thing, then a quick stretch or a short walk around campus if I have time. It wakes up my body and mind! Nourishing Breakfast: Even if it's just a quick smoothie or some yogurt and granola, eating something helps me focus in my morning classes. I used to skip breakfast all the time, and trust me, the hunger headaches were not worth it. Quick Review & Plan: While I'm eating, I take 5-10 minutes to glance over my class schedule, check my to-do list for the day, and mentally prepare. This avoids that "what am I doing today?" panic. Getting Ready (GRWM style!): I try to pick out my outfit the night before, which saves a lot of mental energy. My GRWM usually involves a quick shower, skincare, and some light makeup. It's not about being fancy, but about feeling put-together and confident for the day ahead. Third, flexibility is key. College life is unpredictable. There will be late-night study sessions, early morning labs, or unexpected social events. Don't beat yourself up if you miss a step or have to adjust. The goal isn't perfection, it's consistency most of the time. If I had a late night, I might skip the walk and just focus on hydration and a quick breakfast. And finally, find your 'why'. For me, it's about reducing stress, feeling more in control of my day, and having more energy to actually enjoy my college experience. When I stick to my routine, I feel less overwhelmed and more ready to tackle lectures and assignments. I really hope these extra thoughts help you as you navigate your own college mornings.
