As a product designer, sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in datasets and numbers. We have to remember that our users are humans like us and they will experience emotions while using our product whether we design with that in mind or not.

As product designers, we often focus on features, metrics, and usability, but we must not forget that users experience emotions while interacting with our products. Emotions play a crucial role in establishing connections between users and products. According to Don Norman, there are three essential levels of emotional design: visceral, behavioral, and reflective. 1. **Visceral Design**: This pertains to the immediate aesthetic impression that a user experiences—elements like color, motion, and style significantly influence first impressions. 2. **Behavioral Design**: This reflects the usability and flow of the product. How intuitive is the product? Can users navigate seamlessly without frustration? 3. **Reflective Design**: This level pertains to how the user feels after using the product. It encompasses pride, meaning, and the connection established through the product experience. Implementing emotional design requires effort but yields significant results. Start with quick wins: implement microinteractions that delight users and guide them during complex tasks. Creating an emotional journey means recognizing that not every moment should evoke delight; consider the user's feelings during frustrating moments, like payment failures.
