Basketball Is A Form Of Poetry

3/30 Edited to

... Read moreBasketball is often regarded merely as a competitive sport, but through personal experience, I have found it to be a profound form of poetry—an expressive art that combines movement, rhythm, and emotion in a way that can be deeply therapeutic. Playing basketball is more than just shooting hoops; it’s about feeling the flow of the game, the cadence of footsteps on the court, and the syncronized movements between players that tell a silent story. When you immerse yourself in basketball, you start to notice the poetic elements in the strategies and the improvisation during play. Each dribble and pass can be compared to the lines and verses of poetry—thoughtful, deliberate, and full of meaning. For me personally, basketball became a way to process feelings and thoughts that were difficult to express through words alone. The physical act allowed me to channel energy, stress, and emotions, creating a therapeutic outlet that contributed to my mental well-being. Moreover, basketball’s concept of flow state—a psychological term describing complete absorption in an activity—parallels the experience of being lost in poetry or music. During these moments on the court, every movement feels fluid and purposeful, and time seems to slow, enhancing the creative and emotional connection to the game. In terms of therapy, engaging in basketball promotes both physical and mental health benefits. The sport encourages social interaction, teamwork, and communication, all important components in psychological healing and growth. Additionally, the repetitive yet unpredictable nature of basketball helps in building focus and resilience, akin to crafting verses in poetry where every word and rhythm matters. Reflecting on basketball as poetry also influences how we view the sport culturally and artistically. It encourages players and enthusiasts to appreciate the beauty beyond points and wins—recognizing the artistry in athleticism and the expressive potential of the game. This perspective can elevate one’s relationship with basketball, transforming it into a source of inspiration, therapy, and personal expression.

are you missing out on gains from improper form?
The hip thrust is an exercise you can't be skipping if you are trying to grow your glutes and get a juicy booty. Just like any other exercise, if you're performing the movement wrong, you may not be getting the most out of the exercise which could be hindering your progress and results.
