I used to struggle with afternoon slumps and intense sugar cravings at night, but once I started including foods like avocado and salmon regularly, those issues markedly decreased. Healthy fats are vital because they support brain function and mood stability, which many people overlook. For instance, fats help with hormone regulation, particularly estrogen and progesterone balance, which can impact everything from energy to emotional health. This means that beyond just feeling full longer, the right fats can influence your mind and body in fundamental ways. In my meals, I often drizzle olive oil over salads or steam vegetables with it, which enhances flavor while boosting fat intake. Nut butters and mixed nuts are also my go-to snacks—they not only satisfy hunger but also provide sustained fuel without the blood sugar spikes and crashes that carbs can cause. I also noticed that including fatty fish like salmon a few times a week further supports my mood and cognitive focus due to its omega-3 fatty acids. These fats are especially important for maintaining brain health and can help lessen the afternoon energy dip many experience. If you find yourself battling constant hunger or cravings, I highly recommend trying to incorporate more of these healthy fats into your diet. Start small: add half an avocado to your lunch, swap out low-fat dressings for olive oil-based ones, or enjoy a handful of nuts as a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. Over time, you’ll likely experience more stable energy, fewer cravings, and a better overall sense of well-being—just like I did.
