The new door is in.
After a month, laying in our living room, we finally got time and a nice day to get our door in. I think it was the perfect door for this house.
Wow, the response to our new dark double door has been incredible! So many of you have reached out, and one question keeps popping up in my DMs and comments: 'What color is the paint?' I totally get it – choosing the right exterior paint color can make or break your home's curb appeal, especially when you're undergoing a big home renovation like we are. It’s not just paint; it’s the backdrop to your entire home's personality! Let me spill the tea on our exterior paint color! We actually went with a beautiful, earthy 'Greige' shade – a perfect blend of grey and beige. It’s called 'Sherwin-Williams Accessible Beige' (or something similar, you can find many great greige options!). We found it's the absolute best complement to our rustic wooden siding. We wanted something that felt warm and inviting, but also modern and clean, without clashing with the natural tones of the wood. This particular greige really highlights the natural texture of the siding and creates a lovely, sophisticated contrast with the deep, rich hue of our stunning new dark double door. It gives the house a grounded, yet elegant feel. Choosing this specific shade wasn't a quick decision, trust me! We spent weeks sampling different colors on huge swatches, painting large sections of our existing exterior walls, and observing them at various times of day. It’s amazing how light changes everything! What looked perfect in the morning sun could look completely different under cloudy skies or at dusk. We noticed that some grays looked too cold and unwelcoming, while some beiges felt too yellow or dated. The 'Greige' was just right – it has enough warmth to feel cozy, but enough grey to prevent it from looking stark or overly bright. It also works beautifully with the intricate decorative glass panels featuring a star design on our new door, tying all the exterior elements together seamlessly. When you’re thinking about exterior paint, my biggest piece of advice is to consider your fixed elements first. For us, that was definitely the rustic wooden siding and, of course, the bold statement of the dark double door itself. We also have a practical concrete porch, and the chosen greige provides a neutral, welcoming backdrop that allows other things, like our vibrant potted plants with red leaves, to really pop and add that splash of color. These little details, from the door's star design to the plant foliage, make a huge difference in creating a cohesive and inviting look for your home. It's not just about picking a pretty color; it's about creating an entire aesthetic for your home that reflects your style and enhances its features. Don't rush the process! Get samples, paint large areas of your exterior, and live with them for a few days before making a final decision. Also, consider your landscaping and how the paint color will interact with the greens and seasonal colors in your yard. Our red-leafed plants, for example, truly stand out against the subtle wall color, adding a touch of drama. This whole process is a huge part of your home renovation journey, and getting the exterior right is incredibly rewarding, making all that "lot of work" worth it!
