Signs you are dysregulated

and don't even know.

... Read moreLiving with a dysregulated nervous system can be challenging, especially when you don’t realize what’s happening inside you. From my personal experience, subtle signs like feeling exhausted yet unable to relax, or being constantly on edge over small things like a text message, are common indicators that your nervous system might be stuck in survival mode. This state often manifests as overthinking, irritability, and physical symptoms such as jaw clenching or feeling numb. I found that understanding these signs was the first step toward regaining control. For example, noticing when I am emotionally shutting down or being overtired all day helped me realize my nervous system was overwhelmed. Background noise becoming unbearable or feeling uncomfortable in silence are also red flags. One practical approach that worked for me was incorporating slow breathing exercises into my daily routine. When you’re stuck in survival mode, the body often stays on high alert for too long, leading to physical tension and emotional exhaustion. Mindful breathing helps signal the nervous system to relax. Additionally, spending time outside in natural sunlight and moving my body gently through yoga or walking helped recalibrate my system. Rest and connecting with supportive people were crucial as well. Often, people-pleasing during conflict or waking up suddenly at night are signs your nervous system needs attention. Remember, these small moments of dysregulation are not weaknesses but signals from your body asking for safety and care. Recognizing and responding to these signs with compassion and supportive practices can make a significant difference in restoring balance and wellbeing.
